happy weekend | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2015/04/happy-weekend_24.html
Friday, April 24, 2015. By some strange stroke of luck, it is the end of April and it's still nice outside. I was prepared to shut myself in the house and start complaining to Mike about the heat already, but I won't do that just yet. So let's dig a big hole to bury our trampoline this weekend! In the saddest, most discouraged little voice. Oh Arizona, you are so difficult to love sometimes. But not today. Today the loving comes easy. We spend seven months here and love it! Thank you for your comment....

happy weekend | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2015/05/happy-weekend_8.html
Friday, May 08, 2015. One by one, I've been checking big projects off of my to-do list and it feels great. You know that saying, "The best way to get something done is to begin"? I feel like that's what I've been doing this week. I've just been putting my head down and starting projects I didn't want to be doing in the first place. It might not be the most fun, but it's a sure way to get things done. Something that has been helpful: the weather has been fantastic! Thank you for your comment. Id love ...

becoming a better mother | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2015/05/becoming-better-mother.html
Monday, May 11, 2015. Becoming a better mother. I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day! Mine was sweet. I sure love being the mother of these four children. They are quick to forgive my faults and generous with their love. I felt that love so strongly yesterday that it made me want to be better at showing my love for them. This morning I was seeking inspiration on how to do that when I came upon this older conference talk from Elder Ballard, entitled "Daughters of God". Elder Ballard said, "There is no.

chocolate chip cookies | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2015/05/chocolate-chip-cookies.html
Thursday, May 07, 2015. I've gotten almost completely out of the habit of baking treats. It was hard in the beginning, but I don't miss it so much anymore. Last Friday night, though, Mabel had a strong hankering for chocolate chip cookies, so we got out the kitchenaid and tried a new recipe. These salted chocolate chunk cookies from smitten kitchen. truly good and without guile | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2015/05/truly-good-and-without-guile.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. Truly good and without guile. Mike and I were in the temple last week and I heard something that I wanted to understand better. In seeking more knowledge, I read Elder Michael T. Ringwood's talk from conference entitled, "Truly Good and Without Guile.". I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Elder Ringwood says, "Today there are some who would have us believe our search for relevance can be satisfied only by obtaining position and power. Yet, thankfully, there are many who are...

The Lost Art of Swaddling | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2008/01/lost-art-of-swaddling.html
Wednesday, January 16, 2008. The Lost Art of Swaddling. We can't go anywhere (ok, we don't really go. Anywhere, but when we do. . .) without someone pointing out how tightly Stella is swaddled. I like my babies swaddled, and I like them swaddled tight. Don't get me started on the benefits of swaddling new babies. I could go on and on. Here's how I do it:. I learned my basic technique from my favorite newborn how-to book, "The Happiest Baby on the Block". 3 Hold the blanket against her left hip with your ...

on dreams and being deliberate | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2012/05/on-dreams-and-being-deliberate.html
Friday, May 11, 2012. On dreams and being deliberate. In my dreams I make dresses, I bake cakes, I am calm with my children, I look put together, I have long wavy hair, and I make my bed every morning. Those aren't terribly outlandish dreams, I think, so why can't they be my reality? I've decided to be more deliberate with my choices. I love the idea of imagining how I want my life to look, and then making it happen. I saw a pin a while back that said "Decide what to be and go be it.". It is not as if th...

happy weekend | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2015/05/happy-weekend.html
Friday, May 01, 2015. We brought Elliot's rocket launcher to the school yard for family home evening this week. If you happen to be in the market for a good rocket launcher, we love this one. It doesn't look like much, but it blasts a two liter bottle hundreds of feet in the air. The bottle goes so high that it even disappears for a few seconds. It is so fun. Our ground crew was way more pumped than they look in this picture. Trust me. Also, have you been watching the new season of Call the Midwife.

Sweet Potato Muffins | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2015/05/sweet-potato-muffins.html
Wednesday, May 13, 2015. I'm sort of having a sweet potato moment. Some of my kids don't think they like sweet potatoes. In an effort to convince them otherwise, I made a batch of sweet potato muffins. In a medium bowl, whisk together:. 1 cup whole wheat flour. 1/2 cup quick oats. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. In another bowl blend:. 1 sweet potato, microwaved till soft, then peeled and mashed. 1/4 cup natural peanut butter. 1/4 cup brown sugar. 2 tablespoons butter, melted. Life is...

at the end of my day | barefoot in the kitchen
http://barefootinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2012/10/at-end-of-my-day.html
Wednesday, October 17, 2012. At the end of my day. I read this post. By my wise friend Sarah at Clover Lane. So I've compiled a little list of questions for review at the end of my day. Did I read my scriptures? I'm a much better mother when I have! Did I send Mabel and Oliver off to school with a smile and a hug? Did I feed my family good food? Was I patient with Elliot when he needed to do things himself? When Stella had a million things to tell me, did I give her my full attention every time? I have a...
