In the steps of Saints, Monks and Monarchs. Whithorn has been a place of pilgrimage from as early as the 7th century and remained so until the time of the Reformation. Post the reformation only a very few pilgrims continued to come to Whithorn however in more recent times the story of Whithorn and its connection with St Ninian has seen a growing revival in pilgrim visitors to the area. 1301 - Prince Edward of England (later to become King Edward II). 1329 - King Robert Bruce. 1532 and 1533 - King James V.

In the steps of Saints, Monks and Monarchs. A 127 mile (203 km) long distance trail to Whithorn that has been walked over the centuries by countless pilgrim. Following the Paisley Abbey 850 Anniversary and their successful Pilgrimage Walk to Whithorn there has been a desire to leave a lasting legacy. Alongside this specific desire there has been a National interest in the re-establishment of pilgrim routes and these parallel interests have combined in the formation of the Whithorn Way Steering Group.
