WholeHearted Mama

Living, Loving, and Learning as a Family. Friday, August 15, 2014. Yay, I was so excited to see my first Stitch Fix arrive today! My 6 year old, Dori, was nice enough to be my photographer. First, I tried on this maxi skirt because I knew right away that I would love it! I love the colors and pattern and it's actually not too long on me, which is so nice. It's hard to find maxi skirts that don't have to be hemmed for me! I think the jeans are a pretty good fit! Here is a link to Stitch Fix. I picked up s...

WholeHearted Mama: Our Daily Routine

http://www.wholeheartedmama.blogspot.com/2014/04/our-daily-routine.html

Living, Loving, and Learning as a Family. Tuesday, April 1, 2014. This is our natural routine right now, liable and likely to change at a moment's notice ;) Flexibility is necessary in this line of work! With a newborn, he is basically still attached to me (nursing, in the Moby wrap, or lounging in the bassinet nearby); so I can still go about our day and do what needs to be done. The gist of our school day is:. Short storytime with little ones while Davin does his basic subjects. 7:30 or 8 am. They can ...

WholeHearted Mama: January 2014

http://www.wholeheartedmama.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Living, Loving, and Learning as a Family. Thursday, January 9, 2014. Read Alouds and other news. We finished another great read aloud today called "The Little Duke" by Charlotte Yonge. It had Davin and I in tears at the second to last chapter but ended well! Reading to the kids is my favorite part of our home school, and I'll always cherish this time with them. :). In December we read "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, and they loved having a candy cane during this time! What else have we been up to?

WholeHearted Mama: March 2012

Living, Loving, and Learning as a Family. Saturday, March 3, 2012. Weekly Highlights: Tea Parties, Settlers, and more! It's been a long time since I've done weekly updates, but I thought I'd just post some of our highlights of the past week! The boys are playing with their knights and homemade castle. Empty cardboard boxes are sure to be made into something around here! My little helper, Dodo, always willing to help in the kitchen! My tough little ninjas! While pointing to herself. By the way, 'patria' m...

WholeHearted Mama: July 2011

http://www.wholeheartedmama.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Living, Loving, and Learning as a Family. Thursday, July 21, 2011. Nature Study with the Boys. It has been SO hot outside lately that we have not enjoyed the outdoors very much this past week. It rained earlier today and cooled it down to a comfortable 85 degrees, so it was a perfect day for exploring :) There are so many exciting things to discover outside, and getting to see the world through the eyes of a child brings me such. And after sniffing several he said, "This one smells like Daddy! Then, Dori...

Oh, the Places You'll Go: December 2013

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 5, 2013. Potty training in the trenches. If there's one thing I know about Henry, it's that he's not going to do something unless it's his own idea. What's up with that? How can he go that often? He must be holding in just a little each time so he can up the number of treats he earns. So, the treats quickly turned from a trip to the Halloween bucket to a single M&M. And potty training is messy! Yup, I got trumped. All about me (x20). A few weeks ago I saw these things going around on f...

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 19, 2014. A laugh a minute. For months now, I have been keeping mental notes and random scrawled out lists of funny tidbits that come from Henry. I keep telling myself I have GOT to blog these things! So I'm taking the time now when I should. Be washing dishes to get these things captured all in one place. The timeline here spans from about January until now. Yeah, WAY overdue :). I need you, sweetie! Henry is difficult when it comes to sleeping. Have I mentioned this ever before? I was pushi...

Oh, the Places You'll Go: current obsessions

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2015/01/current-obsessions.html

Wednesday, January 14, 2015. I must admit the title of this post is a little misleading. Particularly the word "current." This post should have been published about six weeks ago. Oh well. For Warren, life is all about horses and Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See? He has a big hoof! Nevermind that in the meantime Dameon and I had scoured the internet searching for another one (which we learned has been discontinued). Thirteen dollars later we have a back-up hanging out in the basement. The funniest ...

Oh, the Places You'll Go: warren's words

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2015/03/warrens-words.html

Tuesday, March 24, 2015. This post should have been published in January). I love this photo. I think it will forever remind me of this stage of Warren's life. He has become the biggest Momma's boy ever. It's funny because he didn't start out this way. If anything, he was partial to Dameon back in the day. Or, what seemed like "partial" to us since all we had to compare to was Henry and we thought he. Was stuck on Mommy. Warren blows Henry out of the water! Our almost-two-year-old (how did that happen?

Oh, the Places You'll Go: August 2013

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 27, 2013. Miley on my mind. It's fair to say this post is a leap from the type I normally publish. Nothing about what my kiddos are saying or doing today. Instead I just have to share a few of the thoughts that have been swirling around in my head lately. It's quite possible that this post will be more for me, personally, than anything else. So, here goes. For sure. Disturbing? You bet. Oh, and another common one "Her parents should be so ashamed." Guess what? I guess I'm not really sure&...

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2014/08/we-moved-volume-3.html

Monday, August 25, 2014. We moved, volume 3. Yes, we know many people think we're crazy. We're fine with it. And maybe we are? Pella has always been in the back of our minds as somewhere we could see ourselves someday. Since Dameon's dad and step-mom live here, it's been a place we've spent a significant amount of time over the years. We even got married here seven years ago! The move to Pella supports all those things! 1 For the first time since leaving our church in North Liberty, we have a church that...

Friday, September 27, 2013. A recipe for Cloud Dust = A recipe for ultimate 2-year-old fun! 8 cups of flour 1 cup of oil. A trip to the orchard. A few notable firsts happened that day. Henry's first time to an orchard. Warren's first time to an orchard. First (of many, if I get my way) matching outfits. First time Henry ever ate a whole apple.seeds, core, stem.whole apple. Six months and more. Here are some stats:. 17 pounds, 6 ounces (44%ile). 275 inches long (80%ile). Close to sitting up. HENRY, meanwh...

Oh, the Places You'll Go: October 2013

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 29, 2013. If you're a parent, then you've probably been asked around the time of your child's birthday or Christmas the obvious question: What's he into right now? By this time, marching band season was in full swing and we attended our first half-time show of the year. It didn't take long for Henry to realize his flag was nothing compared to the real thing, so Dameon proposed he bring home a real flag from work for Henry to have as his very own. Oh happy day! The first weekend of Octobe...

Oh, the Places You'll Go: tidbits

http://lindsayplace.blogspot.com/2014/08/tidbits.html

Monday, August 25, 2014. Honestly, after this extended vacation from the ol' blog I should have an extensive list of funnies from the boys. But my memory continues to get more and more horrible with each passing day. And my hair continues to get more and more frizzy? Maybe Anyway, after sitting here staring at the screen for a good five minutes, these are the ones I came up with:. My mom was here for a visit last week and as she was leaving, she hollered out her farewell. Something like, "Bye, Henry!

Rantings of a Nubian Queen. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Slavery in Sudan (Chapter 1- media coverage). May 11, 2007. I think I can, I think I can, I know I can, I know I can. Sometimes the road uphill has been… let’s say, challenging. At times I felt that I was beat and the climb wasn’t worth it. The journey was a hoax, a bad joke, a promise to nowhere land. Chapters filled with bumper stickers and clichés. I encountered lions, and monkeys, and bears, oh my! Like a bad trip through the poppy fields running from the wicked witch. I found the comfort zone. Stay put. Ldquo; You want to drive, Gd? Show me the way”. Looking ...
