WI-Global Forum: Survival of the fittest?
http://wi-global.blogspot.com/2009/03/survival-of-fittest.html
Sunday, March 8, 2009. Survival of the fittest? 160;Are we in an age of cultural “survival of the fittest” or is the blending of culture elements actually an improvement? Then I thought about the blending of the cultures. Are there a blending of cultures? 160;Yes we see Chinatowns, we see Little Italies, etc. But are they really blending? 160;And if they are, is this an improvement? 160;I don't really see it as an improvement, in fact it could be seen as a negative overall. WI-Global Forum: Shopping Excursion
http://wi-global.blogspot.com/2009/03/shopping-excursion.html
Sunday, March 15, 2009. My friend was at Victoria Secret yesterday buying a swim suit, and I was there along for the ride. While I was waiting for her to try some suits on I noticed that in the store were some women in the store who were shopping for.well, I'm not really sure, I wasn't really paying attention. Anyway, the women were wearing jilbabs. There's an example of the blending of cultures. Now, is that good or bad? Posted by John Tao. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). An online discussion for...

WI-Global Forum: Culture and Globalization
http://wi-global.blogspot.com/2009/01/culture-and-globalization.html
Thursday, January 29, 2009. One of the question prompts for this topic which I thought was most interesting was the one that asked "is there even a way of measuring cultural loss and cultural gain? This made me think about different cultures that I am familiar with, and made me think about whether or not, even in my life that, they have changed. And, if so, how did they change? And, as the question asks, I thought about whether or not there was even a way of measuring the cultural shift. Comment on Measu...

WI-Global Forum: Sports-- Fan Side
http://wi-global.blogspot.com/2008/12/sports-fan-side.html
Sunday, December 7, 2008. As a fan you stand behind your team on the local, national and international arenas. You support the team through their losses and wins. This has potential for both good and bad in my mind. It's hard to say. How important should the role of sports be? Posted by John Tao. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What is the WI-Global Forum? WI-Global Forum: Society and Sports
http://wi-global.blogspot.com/2008/10/society-and-sports.html
Tuesday, October 21, 2008. Specifically with Badger games, students have their habits already set up: they wake up early, they get ready for the game, they attend the game, and then it ends. The unity of the games does not seem to last beyond just the game itself. One must ask then, is it effective? Can sports change the world? Can they help us build a nation? How long term are the effects? Posted by John Tao. November 15, 2008 at 5:15 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What is the WI-Global Forum?

WI-Global Forum: Changing Traditions
http://wi-global.blogspot.com/2009/03/changing-traditions.html
Wednesday, March 4, 2009. I was trying to think of any traditions that I have known which have been heavily impacted by something to the point where they have changed. I can't really think of anything. I'm not really sure what that means, especially considering my view of traditions is a fairly limited scope due to my youth, my perspective and my limited knowledge of some traditions. I guess, with that in mind, can there be cultural purity? Posted by John Tao. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Does the...

WI-Global Forum: Affect of Foreign College Athletes
http://wi-global.blogspot.com/2008/11/affect-of-foreign-college-athletes.html
Friday, November 7, 2008. Affect of Foreign College Athletes. I think that it makes the sport more competitive so I do not think there is anything inherently wrong with drafting foreign athletes. I do find a problem with the fact, if true, of 20 year old freshmen coming in because of sports. I think the sports should be limited so people of the same age group especially are competing against each other otherwise it becomes unfair. November 20, 2008 at 11:43 AM.
