http://wildlifescotland.blogspot.com/2015/03/isle-of-mull-march-2015-part-2.html

Thursday, 26 March 2015. Isle of Mull, March 2015 - Part 2. The morning dawned bright and sunny, a far cry from the weather of the day before. I spotted several Greylag Geese and a male Red-breasted Merganser swimming in the calm bay below. Behind the house, a Red Deer hind was grazing on the ridge of the hill. Garmony Point - Fishnish circular. View across to Lochaline. A Robin in fine song. A juvenile Cormorant was standing on a rock, wings spread, drying off in the morning's sun. Chugged past. Her...

Thursday, 2 October 2014. Loch Leven, Kinross-shire - 2nd Oct. Photos from this morning's walk at Loch Leven. A cool morning, with blue sky, calm before the storm if tomorrow's forecast is anything to go by! The Pink-footed Geese have returned! Panorama of the Loch. Ripples on the surface. Looking across to Bishops Hill - a mass of wildfowl on the water. View to the Ochil Hills. Mallard, Tufted Ducks. Family of Whooper Swans over the Loch. View to Bishop Hill. Video of the Geese. Labels: Black Headed Gull.

Mountains, Miles & Mist: 2010 Walks

http://mountainsmilesmist.blogspot.com/2011/01/2010-walks.html

Saturday, 8 January 2011. I didn't get my long-promised day in August, and so had to wait until September for another foray into the hills, but I made up for it with a weekend circuit of the Lairig Ghru, Cairn a' Mhaim, Ben Macdui and Fiacaill a' Choire Cas. I very rarely head out in company, but walked that weekend with my friend Nick.We started at the Sugar Bowl carpark, and headed t. I've got a bit lazy about updating the walking gallery, and have been posting my photos to facebook. Good to see a post!

Wednesday, 13 April 2011. Tiny Causes of Enormous Problems. God knows - how not to protect your mate from a life-changing illness. The woman continued looking blank, so I encouraged her to think about covering her legs, and left. If you spend any time at all in the UK countryside, I encourage you to familiarise yourself with Lyme disease. Posted by Leigh Forbes. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Mountains, Miles & Mist: A Spare Saturday in Scotland

http://mountainsmilesmist.blogspot.com/2011/06/spare-saturday-in-scotland.html

Tuesday, 21 June 2011. A Spare Saturday in Scotland. Thanks to the vagaries of the Caledonian sleeper timetable, I had a spare Saturday in Scotland. The weather was glorious, and we cursed and praised its fickleness in equal measure. If you'd still like to contribute to my sponsorship fund, you can do so here: justgiving.com/leighforbes. Posted by Leigh Forbes. 22 June 2011 at 14:35. I didnt feel fit! Just glad to get through it all without damaging anything :o). 22 June 2011 at 23:51. Petzl: Tikka Plus 2.

Karen Hartnell - Pet and Wildlife Artist

http://portraitsofpets.co.uk/aboutme.html

I'm currently based near Kinross in beautiful southern Perthshire, Scotland, but I started my artistic journey in Hampshire on the south coast of England. My first visit to Scotland was in 2002 and I was instantly inspired by the amazing landscape and light. In 2005, finally seeing my first - a glimpse of a juvenile flying by my back garden - in 2010, and in 2014 volunteering with the RSPB (of which I'm a member), helping to keep watch over an adult breeding pair. I've had so many wonderful encounter...

Mountains, Miles & Mist: Gruelling Weekend

http://mountainsmilesmist.blogspot.com/2011/06/gruelling-weekend.html

Monday, 6 June 2011. I'm riding in the Scottish Bikeathon. 26 miles through the Highlands in aid of Leukeamia and Lymphoma Research. I'm doing it with the widow of my friend Piet Ketelaar, in his memory. I've raised £255 in four days. My target is £1,000 by the day of the ride, June 19th. If any blogmates out there are prepared to sponsor me, I'd be hugely grateful. You can make a payment online at justgiving.com/leighforbes. Posted by Leigh Forbes. Sunday, 27 March 2011. Two Days in Scotland (and two days on the M6). First trip of 2011! And a bonus to the year's schedule too. Having so little time, we had resolved to walk whatever the weather, and the following morning's steady snow-fall was no deterrent. With not a snowshoe, crampon, or axe between us, we headed up Ryvoan pass amply aided by our YakTrax. Sgurr Mor (1,100m) and the Fannaichs, 64 miles. Posted by Leigh Forbes. Mountains, Miles & Mist: April 2010

http://mountainsmilesmist.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Friday, 23 April 2010. Planes, Trains and Automobiles. A thread about car-sharing on the LFTO forum. Got me thinking about the various ways I travel to Scotland. It's six hundred miles from Sussex, and I have three options: the plane, the train, and the automobile. (There's also the coach, but a never-to-be-repeated 24h from Melbourne to Brisbane cured me of that mode of transport.). The cheapest option (from £26 each way, or free with Airmiles! Following a 1976 ride on the Motorail. The most expensive (...

Wednesday, 31 March 2010. Terra Nova Solar Competition. Click to enlarge images, opens new window). I bought this tent to replace my ancient Saunders Satellite, which was no more than a glorified bivvy, though a techno-marvel in its day. At 1.2kg, the Solar Comp is a great option for those who don't want to lug unnecessary weight around, and want more stability than a tunnel can offer. Stretched out fully inside. Pack Size and Weight. You can pitch the flysheet first (though you might want to rearrange t...
