Almost identical to Essex Skipper, the Small Skipper has dull brown/orange tips to the antennae while the Essex Skipper has distinctive glossy black tips to its antennae. Small Skippers are also slightly more orange in appearance. Like other skippers they spend much of their time basking on grass stems. The Coppers

Male 32mm, Female 35mm. This easy to identify little butterfly has bright orange upper wings that sport back markings and borders. The upper side of the hindwings are greyish brown with orange in the trailing edge. The underside of the forewing is. Similar to the upper side but without the black border. The underside of the hindwing is also grey brown with a few black spots. The Small Copper can have three or more broods a year with peaks in abundance between the following months. GM and Nick Wynn.

Ignorant Conservative Council against Wiltshire heritage. Destroying valuable ancient buildings, without examining them! Oak inn and brewhouse in Westbury, Wiltshire, dating back to the Middle Ages, could have been refurbished as town centre homes not requiring car use. Oak inn and brewhouse being demolished, authorised by Wiltshire Council, the old structures never examined, wrecked only to create a new shopper car park, to actively encourage yet more shopping by car (contrary to WC's policy).
