Wine Connections

Tuesday, November 11, 2008. Wine Blogging Wednesday 51: Baked Goods. I'm not much of a fan of sweet wines, but I enjoyed the results of participating in this month's Wine Blogging Wednesday. The topic is Madeira: The wine the American colonists drank (according to the Wine Bible we were responsible for importing a fourth of all the Madeira made.). I once had a wine that had been accidentaly oxidized. The wine had a distinct raisin flavor that grew overwelming as I drank it: an unpleasant experience!

Wine Connections: A Taste of Rhone

http://winections.blogspot.com/2008/11/taste-of-rhone.html

Tuesday, November 4, 2008. A Taste of Rhone. The Domaine de Montine Seduction is 90% Syrah. I couldn't detect what flavors or aromas were contributed by the Viognier. For that matter, I couldn't pick out any distinct fruit. But when I smelled and tasted the wine, I thought Rhone! Aroma: Rhone (for lack of being able to smell better), rubber. Taste: Rhone, again I'm lacking in skill here. Finish: Long and enjoyable. Really nice tannins that would compliment a red meat dish well. Posted by Orion Slayer.

Wine Connections: Opening The First Case

http://winections.blogspot.com/2008/10/opening-first-case.html

Thursday, October 30, 2008. Opening The First Case. I was afraid I'd have to wait another day for my first case of wine from Garagiste. I was crestfallen. The email from UPS said the package would arrive by 7:00 PM and my watch showed 7:03. What went wrong? My wife told me to go pick up some food and maybe by the time I got back the wine would be here. I doubted it. Somehow, when you anticipate something so much, the disappointment of a deley causes you to lose hope. It took a long time to match the wine...

Wednesday, April 2, 2008. Wine Blogging Wednesday: French Cab Franc. This month's host for Wine Blogging Wednesday is Gary Vaynerchuk. From Wine Library TV. And the topic is French Cabernet Franc. I wasn't able to find a wine that was from a majority of this grape but I did find a nice wine. First, a little information about the grape. ( Click on the Wine Blogging Wednesday logo to learn more about this monthly blogging event. Cab Franc) is one of the six red grapes permitted to be grown in the Boredeaux.

Greg Drinks: 2006 Sainte-Croix Vin de Pays D'oc

http://gregdrinks.blogspot.com/2009/03/2006-sainte-croix-vin-de-pays-doc.html

Tuesday, March 31, 2009. 2006 Sainte-Croix Vin de Pays D'oc. This wine is 50% syrah and 50% merlot. The nose is big with black fruits and hints of fennel and anise. On the palate it is a little thin with a very short finish. It has a nice acidity that attacks the palate in a pleasant way. Flavors of black cherries, blackberries and brambleberries hit you right up front. A nice 87 point effort for only $5! Vin de pays doc. Im glad you liked it as much as I did. Thanks for your tasting notes and video!

Greg Drinks: April 2008

http://gregdrinks.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, April 29, 2008. I tasted another red wine from the Dark Continent. The 2005 Neil Ellis Sincerely Shiraz. I think I liked the pinotage I had the other night better, but it was all right. It had a gorgeous dark purple color. I really liked the nose on this one. It was chock full of blueberries! Thursday, April 24, 2008. Sunday, April 20, 2008. Saturday, April 19, 2008. Greg Drinks: 2004 Three Miners Pinot Noir

http://gregdrinks.blogspot.com/2009/03/2004-three-miners-pinot-noir.html

Sunday, March 29, 2009. 2004 Three Miners Pinot Noir. I recently tasted a very nice pinot noir from New Zealand. The 2004 Three Miners pinot noir impressed me and I would say it's about a 90-91 point wine. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I'm an organic chemist by trade. Greg Drinks: February 2008

http://gregdrinks.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Monday, February 18, 2008. Recently I had the great fortune to taste some Turkish wines from the Turasan winery in Cappadocia. My dear friends carried them back from Turkey and served them last weekend with a Turkish feast (thank you guys). It was a very memorable evening and the wines were quite impressive. Tuesday, April 21, 2009. I tasted the 2004 La Millière Châteauneuf-du-Pape from the Rhone Valley. A complex wine with aromas of red currant and strawberry with some peat. The flavors of red fruits comes through right away with red cherries on the mid palate. This wine has a nice focussed acidity that goes well with the fruit. Rated 92 pts by Steve Tanzer and I agree with that. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Red River Valley Chapter of the American Wine Society. Good Wine under $20.

http://gregdrinks.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Wednesday, June 11, 2008. Tuesday, June 10, 2008. Monday, June 9, 2008. Sunday, June 8, 2008. I don't often drink grand crus but this one came as a good deal from Wine Library. For $20 I think I got a good bargain. This was a very nice wine. As you can see from the back label, it is composed of 80% merlot, 10% cabernet sauvignon, and 10% cabernet franc; a classical Bordeaux blend if I've ever seen one. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Greg Drinks: September 2008

http://gregdrinks.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 21, 2008. I ordered this 2005 Bordeaux from Wine Library. Way back in January as a presale. It was supposed to come in some time last June but it didn't arrive until just yesterday. I've been dying to taste it. Some of the tasting notes on cellartracker for this wine are mixed. One guy even gives it 74 points because it has tannins! Not sure what to think of that review. Well, tonight I opened a bottle and I'll give you my opinion. Palate: Solid firm tannins that are gripping! On the pa...

Mischief in the Wine Country. Beaujolais Nouveau or What I used to Drink as a Child. My dad used to drink and my mom did not like it. But that’s not the side of the story I want to say. The story is that Dad used to let us, kids, taste from his glass. Face it: back in Europe we tasted from Dad’s glass and we ended up being way better behaved than our American peers. But I digress…. We tasted in class a flick of wines, and among them was a Beaujolais. Nouveau from Burgundy, France. Tags: Aroma of wine.
