The Hermitage Hotel: April 2010
http://aorakimtcook.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 12, 2010. Our friend the Falcon stops in to say hello! Jeremy from Magic Memories snapped this beautiful pic of a Falcon (karearea) posing on Sir Ed's bronze statue the other day. The New Zealand falcon is listed as a threatened species by the Department of Conservation due to population decline. It is believed that stoats are among the main culprits for this as they prey on their eggs and nestlings. Facts about New Zealand falcon/kārearea. Support a falcon conservation organisation.

Pachyderm: home by another way. Explorations, musings, and wonderings along the path of life. I have been there. One of my uni friends loaned me 84 Charing Cross Road. Many years ago when I was a student. I didn't know the author at all but immediately resonated with her love of all things literature and all things England. The sequel, The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street. Includes a description of Helene Hanff's passion for England - how she used to go to movies just to see English streets and buildings.

Pachyderm: home by another way. Explorations, musings, and wonderings along the path of life. Tonight I am sitting here in the cold of an autumn night with the cat next to me on the arm of my chair, reflecting on a blog post I have just read. John Shore. And it is a sad indictment of the narrowness and sickness of the "fundamentalist" and "evangelical" churches that I left with relief 15 years ago. The Bible is not a contract or literally dictated by God. It is a complex set of different kinds of lit...

Pachyderm: home by another way. Explorations, musings, and wonderings along the path of life. I had a hammer-to-the-head moment today. This last couple of weeks since the house went on the market have been insanely crazy, and I've really struggled to keep my focus on what really matters to me. Pachyderm: home by another way. Explorations, musings, and wonderings along the path of life. Books: the breath of life. The last two weeks have been pretty busy and a bit stressful, so I have been finding a bit of peace and quiet in a couple of books: a favourite, and a new book by a favourite author. The old favourites are the Harry Pottter. The Harry Potter tour was on our daughter's must-do list and we were all quite happy to oblige her! By the outstanding scholar and church historian Diarmaid MacCul...
