http://wirralbirders.blogspot.com/2015/08/more-swallows.html

A Wirral birders blog. Birding the Wirral peninsular and beyond. In between weddings and trips out with our daughters, son in law and grandaughter I've managed to get out in the evenings and ring a few more broods. The 3 sites have currently yielded nearly 60 youngsters with one site ( the livery stables) accounting for 25 from 4 pairs of that total with more to come! The dairy farm, however has struggled with 3 pairs fledging 10 young. Posted by Phil Woollen. Subscribe to: Post Comments ( Atom ). My for...

http://wirralbirders.blogspot.com/2015/05/garganey-on-gowy-marshes.html

A Wirral birders blog. Birding the Wirral peninsular and beyond. Garganey on Gowy marshes. The Cheshire Wildlife Trusts reserve on the Gowy marshes is a fantastic reserve and one which I don't visit as often as I used to. I'm doing some survey work on one of the farms along the Gowy river for CWT and when I heard a couple of Garganey had been seen recently on a pool adjacent to the farmland I'm surveying I decided to take a quick look. Sure enough there were a pair of Garganey! Posted by Phil Woollen.

A Wirral birders blog: First Spotted Flycatcher of the year.

http://wirralbirders.blogspot.com/2015/05/first-spotted-flycatcher-of-year.html

A Wirral birders blog. Birding the Wirral peninsular and beyond. First Spotted Flycatcher of the year. An early start Sunday as we arrived on Hilbre around 06.20 on a blustery day. There weren't many migrants about but the appearance of a female Redstart in the Newton trap around 09.00 filled us with some optimism. This was the first female caught so far this year! Note the seaweed trailing behind the bird. There was a strong passage of hirundines. With good numbers of Swallows, House Martins and Sand Ma...

Tales of mischief, woe and intrigue. well, not really, pretty much about birds and wildlife to be honest! Friday, 6 June 2014. Farming and persecution - why is our countryside being held to ransom? Part One: Raptor Persecution. It torments me to think that our beautiful countryside and the wildlife that depends on it has been continually and systematically destroyed until it is clinging on for mere existence. and for what? Money pure and simple. It is an utter disgrace. Poisoned Red Kite ( Milvus milvus.

Tales of mischief, woe and intrigue. well, not really, pretty much about birds and wildlife to be honest! Tuesday, 14 October 2014. Shetland 2014 - Day 2 - Unst. Thankfully due to a change in ferry timings, the mad dash across Yell wasn't as mental as it could have been and also gave us the opportunity to have a quick look for the female King Eider that had been hanging around with a flock of Common Eider in Basta Voe. Tales of mischief, woe and intrigue. well, not really, pretty much about birds and wildlife to be honest! Tuesday, 14 October 2014. Shetland 2014 - Day 1 - A White morning and a Yellow afternoon. The weather was beautiful in Aberdeen and the ferry journey was pretty relaxing too - not too choppy and I went up top to have a look for some seabirds as the ship headed north past the Aberdeenshire coast. On the way there were plenty of auk and Gannets offshore, some of the Gannets coming extremely close.
