Butterick 5891 using men’s shirts | Domestic Deb
http://domesticdeb.com/wp/butterick-5891-using-mens-shirts
Butterick 5891 using men’s shirts. For round #2 of Pattern Review’s Surprise Sewing Bee we were to make an adult garment using up to 5 men’s button down shirts. I chose to make Katherine Tilton’s Butterick 5891. The vest option, but with sleeves. It was a blast using the mens shirts! I didn’t win this round, but the competition was fierce and I was quite pleased to be chosen to move ahead with 24 others. You can see my contest entry here. An A-Line Skirt | Domestic Deb
http://domesticdeb.com/wp/an-a-line-skirt
I started off thinking of just making an A-line with something different. How about a front zip? I cut it out and went to bed. Woke up at 4:30 am thinking duh, am I thinking? It’s an A-LINE. 8230; sounds like a train route…or a subway route… remember to mind the gap. So I cut out a denim skirt using the Maria Denmark Yasmine Yoke Skirt. Now I know that most people looking at this won’t know what in the world it says (Aline? This entry was posted on Wednesday, November 5th, 2014 at 8:35 pm and is filed un...

Marcy Tilton Cirque dress Vogue 9112 | Annieloveslinen
https://annieloveslinen.wordpress.com/2015/05/29/marcy-tilton-cirque-dress-vogue-9112
May 29, 2015. Marcy Tilton Cirque dress Vogue 9112. Fun with stripes, in a springy seersucker. I love this dress so much I made it thrice. The two green dresses are seersucker, the stripe I bought to make a shirt dress, so not me really, what was I thinking? It seriously risked looking institutional, so it’s been shelf surfing for a couple of years just waiting for its place in the sun. The third one is made in grey linen from Merchant and Mills, a generous Christmas gift. Masai tunic dress knock off.

Masai tunic dress knock off | Annieloveslinen
https://annieloveslinen.wordpress.com/2015/05/28/masai-knock-off
May 28, 2015. Masai tunic dress knock off. I have bought a fair few garments made by The Masai Clothing Company. One of the reasons that I returned to sewing was because I was sure that I could make similar styles. They looked quite basic enough to copy. They’re traditiona. L shapes used in an imaginative way and as the cost averages around 100 for a simple piece, the decision to have a go at making my own was a no-brainier. A gingham smock, but hey, it works for me! Special thanks goes to Dolly, my ever...

March 23, 2016. I am ridiculously pleased with this little toolbag, it makes me smile every time I use it, it’s not difficult to make either, just make sure you cut each piece accurately and mark it. The pattern is from RipStitcher on Craftsy. If you’re a visual learner, Birdcage and Thread have a good YouTube tutorial that I found really helpful. So good I made it twice, the blue one was a gift. Lynn Mizono dress, Vogue 1410 | Annieloveslinen
https://annieloveslinen.wordpress.com/2015/05/27/lynn-mizono-dress-vogue-1410
May 27, 2015. Lynn Mizono dress, Vogue 1410. This is a deceptively easy dress to make, just two pattern pieces. Simples. I wanted it to fall just below my knee so I made it a lot shorter, I think I took almost six inches off the total length. To give you some idea I’m 5′ 4″ tall, the pattern is way too long and I didn’t want to hitch it up as I felt that that would add too much bulk and I have quite enough of that, thank you. Elastic cord and metallic cord stop. I do like this pattern and I had to make i...

Sedentary sewing | Annieloveslinen
https://annieloveslinen.wordpress.com/2015/06/25/sedentary-sewing
June 25, 2015. I’m laid low at the moment with a sprained ankle, forced into inactivity. Initially sewing was an impossibility, but as time passed and the pain eased somewhat, I had a little think about what I might usefully be able to do. I had an ‘aha’ moment a few weeks ago when Kate. Now seemed a good a time as any to have a go so I followed this tutorial. It was quite therapeutic listening to the radio, sitting at my table and rolling back and forth from machine to ironing board. 8 thoughts on &ldqu...

Originations: April 2015

Musings on my fabric-based experimentation, projects successful and not-so, dreams and plans. Friday, April 3, 2015. A few weeks ago I sewed a sweater top for myself, in the midst of the epic winter of February/March 2015, where in the Northeast we had 10 weekends in a row with measurable snowfall. I brought home the last cut of Avalon cotton sweater knit from work at Sawyer Brook, and matched it with McCalls 6796. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. tabula rasa jacket | Unzipped
https://bluemooney.wordpress.com/2014/11/23/tabula-rasa-jacket
November 23, 2014. The Tabula Rasa is from indie pattern company Fit For Art. Lightened, but you still can’t see anything. Sorry. Unlike other arty jackets, this one does not have extended shoulders. That’s one reason that the fit seems relatively trim. Also, a lot of fabric that is usually bunched up under the arm has been eliminated. Still doesn’t tell you anything except that it needs to be longer. You can probably tell that I like this jacket, since I wrote so darn much about it! Leave one →. Your re...

Through the Eye of a Needle. Sharing my love of sewing, quilting and knitting. A few days ago I finished the Plus Size Sassy Apron. A super easy pattern. I did not like or follow the directions.
