Because the Alternative is Unthinkable: October 2013
http://alternativeunthinkable.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 21, 2013. Being a relatively new llama owner, having three never-before-handled ‘babies’ was a little bit scary. I also know that you are not supposed to leave the halters on when llamas are out in their field, so I knew I had to take them off. I was amazed at how relatively easy it was to approach them and get the halters off. I’m guessing that they were probably still unsure of their surroundings, so that probably helped. Because the Alternative is Unthinkable: September 2012
http://alternativeunthinkable.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 16, 2012. Field Trip – Erie County Forest. So a couple weeks after our adventure in Batavia, we took a field trip to the Erie County Forest. 160; They have horse trails there… and where horse trails are, llamas are allowed to go . What interested me most about this field trip was the fact that the forest contains streams, wooden bridges and. Wooden bridges – all things I want The Boys to not think twice about should they encounter them in the future. Not far from the bridge was a stream...

Because the Alternative is Unthinkable: May 2014
http://alternativeunthinkable.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 17, 2014. Yesterday was a very busy and exhausting day… the vet came out for the Boys’ yearly checkup and to take care of ‘stuff’ that needed doing. While I am not one that enjoys watching the shows on TV that show surgeries (ick! It was kind of interesting to see how the gelding was done. It wasn’t as gross and bloody as I had imagined it to be, but at the same time I didn’t really want to take pictures of the procedure either. I love how Olliver made sure he passed out on his best friend.

Because the Alternative is Unthinkable: January 2014
http://alternativeunthinkable.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Wednesday, January 22, 2014. What I ended up doing was making coats for the two of them. Allbus got one made of two polar fleece blankets I picked up at the Salvation Army sewn together for lots of warmy-goodness and Olliver’s coat was made out of an old comforter I had. Allbus was the first priority and therefore the guinea pig of my initial llama-blanket-making experiment. Thank you so much to Dragonfly Llama. For the pattern to get me started – it was perfect for someone (me! On a limited budget.

Because the Alternative is Unthinkable: September 2011
http://alternativeunthinkable.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 5, 2011. August is over… Where, oh where, did the summer go? I set the trap for a couple more weekends and haven’t had any takers, so I think that any raccoons that have been visiting me are gone. For now anyway. Doctors can be very testy when you haven’t gone to see them for a while. Tetanus shots hurt just as much as I remember. I just don’t remember them making me feel sick before. I forgot how much bee stings hurt. And itch. I’ve become addicted to vanilla malted milkshakes.

Because the Alternative is Unthinkable: March 2014
http://alternativeunthinkable.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 15, 2014. I love the soft-sided buckets I use – especially for the uninsulated water. When the ice was getting thick along the sides and bottom, it was really easy to break the ice by tapping on the outside. Being rather rubbery, I didn’t have to worry about the bucket cracking in the cold along with the ice. Who would guess that you could mix llamas and science? Saturday, March 15, 2014. Links to this post. Tuesday, March 11, 2014. I need to devise some kind of holster for the clippers s...

Because the Alternative is Unthinkable: June 2014
http://alternativeunthinkable.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 7, 2014. It’s that time of year! The days are getting warm enough and all the boys need to get haircuts for the summer. While they do fine in the winter for the most-part, summer has dangers for llamas… namely heat stress. Llamas do not do well in very hot temperatures and wearing a winter coat through the summer is not a healthy thing for them (did you know that llama wool is 6-7 times warmer than sheep’s wool? They were wonderful to work with – much easier than the Fiskars scissors.
