Wombolly Birds - Crimson Rosellas

Very pretty parrots who are regular visitors, particularly in the warmer months. If they're not feeding on thistles or grass seeds, then they can often be heard in the tree tops communicating with their very distinctive ringing call.

Some of these cute little finches have become quite tame and will quickly congregate in numbers on the back lawn if a handful of seed is offered. They move among the grass with little flashes of red as they seek out the seed, although during Spring it's not unusual to see a youngster who has not yet got his red head markings.
Wombolly Birds - Eastern Spinebills

A family of these birds are residents at Wombolly, as they flap a consistent round of the many flowering trees and shrubs that abound. They are deft acrobats as they thrust their long curved beaks deep into the flowers. Each year a young one, without the distinct markings of the adults, joins in the feeding fun. Their beaks and the Kangaroo Paw flowers must have been made for each other!

If you're lucky you'll catch sight off these little birds as they flit from branch to branch and in the undergrowth at Wombolly, flashing their tiny fantail to reveal a splash of orange. Very pretty!

These pretty birds are usually heard before they are noticed. They move quietly though the eucalypts, their strong beaks cracking and tearing loose barks as they search for worms and bugs. Great acrobats!
