Woodlands and Meadows have been in existence since the mid 1990's. The name was derived from a desire to create a quiet natural setting to showcase the plants. As a passionate collector of new and unusual plants, I needed an outlet to share my enthusiasm. My guarantee is that you get the plant that you purchased. If it turns out not to be the plant that was on the label, then please, let me know, I will fix the problem to your satisfaction if possible. Even as a retailer, I have had plants come i...

I have yet to meet a plant I didn’t like. Yes, even goutweed (bishop’s weed, Aegopodium podagraria). It is very hardy, fast growing, grass-green leaves edged in white, and forms a low dense mat 6-12”. It grows in sun or shade, tolerates poor soil and dry conditions and is very easily propagated. Yet, you will not find it on my property or for sale in my nursery. Even though it is an excellent ground cover, once you have it you will never, ever get rid of it. And several locations in. When you come in the yard you will first notice a few railway items that you may not expect to find in a plant nursery. This is Andrew’s passion as a collector of railway antiques and artifacts. The first thing you will see is the Caboose. Built by Canadian National Railways in their Point St. Charles Shops in 1976. This Caboose was used as the office of the Conductor at the end of the freight trains in. We purchased the Caboose from CN in 1998 as the railway was downsizing its fleet. It was shipped to.

Garden Blogger's Geography Project: Wrapup Pt 2! Nothing like supper and a nap to renew one's energy, is there? If we had a prize for "most entertainingly original" post, I think it would have to go to Ottawa Hortiphilia for the highly amusing poem. At the beginning of OH's post about our nation's capital city. It's a lovely city, if somewhat challenging for gardeners. Our friend Kylie. I learned that Royal, Illinois, got its name from a sign on a railcar advertising baking powder. With her musings, and ...

Helping Haligonians birth their gardens. April 8, 2012 at 9:23 am · Filed under Uncategorized. It is an honor to work with The Deanery Project crew to illustrate and develop their landscape/permaculture design! After a few sessions harvesting ideas and observations from the core Deanery Project crew, we have a draft design to run through the Permaculture principles. From here, we can garden the site slowly, holistically, and cohesively with the complex programming the site will develop into.

The Woodlands

Wednesday, July 25, 2012. This baby makes me happy. One of her "monster faces" HA ha ha ha! Wednesday, July 25, 2012. July 12th was a very special day. It was Teagan's birthday and the day her uncle came home from serving an LDS mission in Guatemala. Teagan was a very gracious birthday sharer and postponed all party plans until the weekend so we could celebrate Elder Durfee's homecoming. It was a mini little family reunion. With this many brothers and sisters, how could it not be? Wednesday, July 25, 2012.

Woodlands and Meadows

Saturday, March 7, 2015. Any one who knows me or has heard me give talks on gardening, knows I'm passionate about compost (wrote 2 blogs on the subject in 2011). What has got me on to this post is the mention of the build up of compost in bags on the back deck of homes, because no one can get to their compost bins or piles or the use of snowshoes to get to the compost pile on the NSAGC Facebook. Page This is the first year, I have ever had to resort to snowshoes to dump the compost. Hi, it has been awhile.

WOODLANDS & PRAIRIES Editor’s Notebook

Monday, August 20, 2012. Ecosystems cross political boundaries, as did the Americans who showed their passports to customs authorities at the Canadian border and went on to attend the North American Prairie Conference in Winnipeg Aug. 6 to 10 in the upper reaches of the tall grass prairie. Held every two years, this marked the 23rd such conference, and its first time in Western Canada. David Young, another Canadian, wove human history into the story of the prairies with an account of the Selkirk settlers.

Woodlands and Waters – Outdoor adventures in the Tennnessee Valley and beyond

Outdoor adventures in the Tennnessee Valley and beyond. The Sweet Spot: Tom Bevill Trail at Lake Guntersville State Park. January 11, 2017. When planning a hike, there are so many factors to keep in mind. One of the biggest is time constraints — how long will it take you to get to the trailhead? How long will it take you to complete the hike? A separate, but related, factor is how long is your planned hike? Will you need to bring a shuttle vehicle (which eats into your hiking time)? We turned right here,...
