Hollow Ball Project | woodturning blog

https://woodturningblog.wordpress.com/projects/hollow-ball-project

A Blog about woodturning. Dreidel Box Project…. As Yaakov asked about the process here is a quick photo story of the hollow ball process…. I started with a 65mm*65mm*130mm square…. Using a spindle roughing gouge, rough down to a clean cylinder…. Turn a spigot on both ends to suit your scroll chuck. Part through at the center point, but not all the way through for safety. Remount in the chuck on the spigot…. Now using a 3/8″ spindle gouge hollow out the half ball to exactly match the template…. And here t...

Is Yew wood toxic… | woodturning blog

https://woodturningblog.wordpress.com/2009/11/10/is-yew-wood-toxic

A Blog about woodturning. Dreidel Box Project…. Is Yew wood toxic…. November 10, 2009. Is Yew wood toxic? This question has been around for a long, long time. Pliny is, I believe, the first to have recounted the story that people have died from consuming fluids (in this case, wine) from Yew wood vessels. Since then there have been stories, and some research, but nothing definitive (that I can find) on the issue of the wood itself. Why you wish to eat Yew leaves is an entirely different matter! Well I sti...

I had a very small job to do this morning which was six tiny handles for a dressing table. They were commissioned by the maker, a craftsman and bespoke furniture maker (amongst other things! I decided to go home at 1 o’clock. The day seemed to be telling me that enough was enough and for once I listened. Oh well. Tomorrow’s another day. Create a free webs...

Do you have any clearer photos of the top of syc hollowform with inks.jpg? What kind of inks do you use? I’ve held back colouring my turnings in favour of letting the natural grain and imperfections dominate. This piece really draws me for some reason and makes me rethink about trying the process. Beautiful work, all of it.

A Blog about woodturning. Dreidel Box Project…. Toxicity in Yew…. April 17, 2012. Commented on Is Yew wood toxic…. Regarding my previous post on 25th April 2011. I have not turned any yew for nearly a year now after my last incident. One of the symptoms that I sufferered was that the vision in my right eye became blurred for a day or so afterwards and the wrinkles around my eye seemed to be deeper than usual. This entry was posted in green woodwork. And tagged taxine poisoning. Toxicity in Yew wood.

My box of wood to use for marquetry and inlay. So before I can begin the scroll saw work to create the inlay, I must have the material for the inlay itself. I have a box of scraps that I keep just for such occasions. It is filled with all sorts of woods that I might need one day for projects like this. View all posts by yaakov →.

Musings on and about Woodworking and Art. About Yaakov and Artisan’s Call. In Yaakov’s Workshop. Newer posts →. So we start again. February 11, 2013. Today I started construction on a new commission. It is a tzedakah box done in a style I have never made before. Generally, I make these with solid wood sides, but since this particular box has marquetry on the front, I had to make the sides of the box very thin, since the dimensions of the box are rather thin itself. Creating interesting firewood…. August 28th, 2014 Author: Bill. The kiddo and I cast a blank a while back and I finally got around to turning it. The ‘wood’ inside is just the tops of acorns found in the yard. We weren’t sure how much resin to mix and ended up making 2 batches. We pearlized the 2nd batch and swirled it in a bit. It turned out much better than anticipated! A piece of the blank is below the pen in the picture. Buffalo, you infernal beast! May 5th, 2014 Author: Bill. Pen tube with gunk.
