The Daily Freelancer: Thanks For The Layout, Now Where's My Gift?
http://thedailyfreelancer.blogspot.com/2010/07/thanks-for-layout-now-wheres-my-gift.html
Wednesday, July 21, 2010. Thanks For The Layout, Now Where's My Gift? Sure, I understand that certain freelancers may want to express gratitude to a client for giving them business. That's all well and fine. However, over the years I think this has set an unhealthy precedent because now we have clients who actually EXPECT gifts from freelancers. Now this is something I know is wrong. To give a gift to a client just because they called me to work? Wednesday, August 04, 2010. Friday, August 06, 2010. I gue...

The Daily Freelancer: Never Say Never
http://thedailyfreelancer.blogspot.com/2010/08/never-say-never.html
Thursday, August 26, 2010. I could have used any number of trite images for this post. A revolving door, musical chairs, etc. The "grass is always greener on the other side" image works too I guess. Maybe it's just that I really. Anyhow, seems like another "Career Freelancer" has left the fold to take a staff position. Yes, Daily Freelancer. I wish everyone well in their new endeavors. Just remember, if you're not a freelancer anymore you can't read this blog! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Need a g...

The Daily Freelancer: May 2010
http://thedailyfreelancer.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 2, 2010. Heard It Through The Grapevine. Sure it seems like most of what is being passed along is just trivial fluff. Things like "Did you hear that so-in-so is sleeping with what's-her-face? Or "Guess who's pregnant? On the other hand, some of the rumors will clearly affect the entire industry. Things like "Did you hear that a giant conglomerate just bought our agency? 2) "Guess who's pregnant? 3) "Can you believe how much money What's-her-face is spending on her destination wedding? The Daily Freelancer: April 2011
http://thedailyfreelancer.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 10, 2011. Several weeks ago I was asked by a fellow freelancer if the agency we were working at paid overtime. I said "Of course, why? He said that the freelance coordinator told him that this agency did NOT pay overtime. I explained that since we were classified as "Temporary Employees" who receive W-2 wages, it is a Federal law that once you work 40 hours in one week, anything over is considered overtime (and pays time and a half). The Daily Freelancer: October 2010
http://thedailyfreelancer.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 17, 2010. Matt directed me towards a web site called "YourLogoMakesMeBarf.com" which I found to be greatly amusing. I also did a Google search for "worst logo ever" and came up with even more design atrocities. Check out this beaut. These next two have made their way around the web for some time now, and there are a ton of similar ones out there - if you know what I mean. Just timeless examples of "epic design failure" through and through. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Please contact me if ...

The Daily Freelancer: Apple's Next "Big Thing"
http://thedailyfreelancer.blogspot.com/2010/07/apples-next-big-thing.html
Thursday, July 29, 2010. Apple's Next "Big Thing". The bottom line is if you already have a Mac Pro, the cost to upgrade to one of these newer machines won't justify the marginal increase in performance. For anyone out there who has to have a speed bump, the new video card(s) and solid state hard drives can be used in older Mac Pros to maximize their performance. Sunday, August 08, 2010. Nothing Lasts Forever in life.but the few thoughts you type down on a virtual page that exist even when you are done with your craze to express! Monday, April 25, 2011. My whirlpool and the Greener side(s). While I was in its grip last evening, and into today,it makes me impatiently angry,to not be able to pull myself out of it. As my Mom always says- " Nazariya badlo, nazaare badlenge.". Wish it was as easy to do as to say that. Friday, March 25, 2011. Corporate 'selling' of self! Tuesday, March 8, 2011.
The Word Slave
I do what the words tell me to. Mourning Does Not Become Me. I’ve always envied artists whose grief is their muse. Through their tears, they create epic poems, brilliant paintings or novels that resonate with readers centuries later. My tears only burn my eyes and smear the ink on the page. Standing in the darkness, the whole block quiet and all of the neighbors' lights turned off, I liked to pretend I was standing at the edge of the Earth, and that there wasn't another living thing for miles.
WORD SLAW
An online literary journal: mixing it up without a recipe. Mar 1, 2014. Currently, Word Slaw has moved the majority of its activity to Twitter. Jan 29, 2014. Doubt, KL Benson. By Kevin Lee Benson. Every now and then I get sick. And its not a flu or cold. It is my head. Full of fear and. Doubt that overpowers confidence. I am left stumbling, blind. Where is the light? I will see it. In time. I will find it. But the cure never lasts. Batch Party, GBiHOz. East coast, mid west. See those kids less often now.
Words Lead Me On
Words Lead Me On. The stories we love best do live in us forever. Conservative MP compares Stephen Harper government to Jesus, inspiring hilarious #CPCJesus tweets. Is it time we started referring to Prime Minister Stephen Harper as “Our Lord and Saviour”? The Conservative MP for Vancouver South, apparently told the congregation at Harvest City Church that the Harper government’s pushing through of controversial antiterrorism bill C-51. All the Canadian Politics! It’s hard to think of something mor...

Words' Leaves
I keep on starting and stopping and restarting and starting new blogs. Partly because - life starts again, it feels like, one starts to read again, write again, hesitantly, in fits and spurts, the old blog is too much in the past, and too private, and yet I don't want to delete it. Let it stand as my reminder to myself. So: once more. A moment of silence. Things I have learned to say in Teochew. The machinery is old. How now, brown cow? I would like some teochew porridge. What are you saying? He who reme...
Variation on the Word Sleep
Variation on the Word Sleep. Thursday, August 11, 2005. It's been ages since I've posted anything. But I think that'll change. It's hard to think what to write, and it's even harder to accept that something is good enough to post - despite the fact that I have no audience. I have a few ideas though. Let's see if I can manage to get them into a form I feel okay about. Posted by Steve at 9:43 PM. Monday, January 31, 2005. The Power of Fiction. Started re-reading The Neverending Story. Words Left Out
Perspectives from the corners. Friday, July 20, 2012. In the desert and it's raining. Red earth soaks under the deluge. And breaks my heart. Peace found in between those spaces,. In between each grain. Moving with wind and water. Rocks and sand taken by the wash,. Cousin of a river who cannot stay. Turquoise brush against orange and gold. The paintings as far as the eye can see. Bathed in an ocean of lightening and thunder. Carries the future far from me. Because the past pounds in the present's pulse,.
Words Left Over | Poetry blog of Stuart Thembisile Lewis
Poetry blog of Stuart Thembisile Lewis. Stuart Thembisile Lewis is a journalist and filmmaker who moonlights as a poet. He was born in 1993, less than a year before South Africa's first democratic election, and carries a massive chip on his shoulder for consistently being lumped together with the so-called 'Born Frees'. He spends most of his time stuffing around on the internet. This is where he keeps all his poetry but you can check out his professional work here. By Stuart Thembisile Lewis. May 30, 2015.
