The Looking Glass Life: March 2009
http://coyotesdaughter.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
The Looking Glass Life. The Art of Not Writing. Tuesday, March 31, 2009. I was reminded of the setting dilemma after reading this review. Of Jim Butcher's Storm Front. Over at The Wertzone. The book is the first in the series The Dresden Files. Which is set in Chicago. I called Chicago home for many years, and was stoked to find a book set in my city. Maybe I'm just too picky. Could it be ok to mix a real setting with convenient yet inaccurate details? Links to this post. Friday, March 27, 2009. The trou...

The Looking Glass Life: "If it's out there, it's mine"

The Looking Glass Life. The Art of Not Writing. Wednesday, April 08, 2009. If it's out there, it's mine". There are stories that I can't write because someone else has already written them. I recognize the absurdity of this idea. With many thousands of years of the storytelling tradition behind us, is originality even a plausible concept? Still, we all strive for the fresh, the new, the unique. Or so I thought. Last week, I stumbled across an interview with John Mellencamp. On NPR's Fresh Air. Directing ...

The Looking Glass Life: And We're Back
http://coyotesdaughter.blogspot.com/2009/03/and-were-back.html
The Looking Glass Life. The Art of Not Writing. Friday, March 27, 2009. You know you've fallen out of touch when the Flickr pictures of the new baby are the first you've heard that your friends are expecting. I was reminded of my poor, neglected blog when my friend Fee decided to start a blog to go along with her renewed dedication to painting: Works in Progress. And voila, we have a theme. Writing about not writing? It's just crazy enough to work! More comments this time! Currently a ski instructor or b...

We went to see watchmen last night, which I really rather enjoyed. Seeing as everyone else has talked about this, I will too! It was a lot more violent than I expected - one of the more visceral films I have seen. Kit and I had identical 'hands over eyes, sharp intake of breath' at quite a few points. ( Joris probably didn't. Phlegmatic dutchman). And Laurie was such a useless cipher of a female character it made me a bit cross. But I did like a lot of the cinematography. On that note, I shall drag mysel...

An abstract epiphany ~ Deborah Milligan: What drives you to creation?
http://deborahmilligan.blogspot.com/2011/08/what-drives-you-to-creation.html
An abstract epiphany Deborah Milligan. Come on a journey through my art-making as I seek inspiration and delight through people, art and ideas. Wednesday, August 24, 2011. What drives you to creation? What drives you to creation? Just what is that itch that must be scratched? What drives you to pick up your brush, to dip your fingers into the paint and start marking that blank canvas? Is it collaboration that wags your tail? Small and close and personal. Maybe you find out who you are when you beat metal...
