A blog about my Peace Corps service in Ecuador 2016-2018. 7/27, surviving and possibly even thriving. September 4, 2016. September 4, 2016. I have been in Ecuador now for more than seven months! The first few months of my service were akin to swimming butterfly through a vat of peanut butter. Even though it was (and still is! The struggle. I wonder if there will ever be a day when I don’t smile and say “sí”. Random men yelling AYE MAMI! A great break from it all was seeing my family from the USA. My ...

A blog about my Peace Corps service in Ecuador 2016-2018. 101 days and a tribute to three people who received their help too late. May 15, 2016. May 15, 2016. My counterpart teacher Lady took me on three buses to find the rowing club today. She has helped me so much. This was taken before we found out about the children on the landing. A tribute to you, girl by the river and people on the bike. It is a tragedy the people who loved you could not be there to help when you needed it most. You are commenting...

A blog about my Peace Corps service in Ecuador 2016-2018. Rowing Camp And On The Road To Injury-Free Existence. January 31, 2015. It has been almost six months since I consciously decided to fix my long-term injuries. I’ve made huge gains, and learnt how to persist and when to back off when needed. Two years in the Peace Corps. 8 months in Ecuador / Nostalgic for Independence. My life is both privileged and small here. It’s been a challenging, exciting, stressful, exhilarating, you-name-it 8 months here. Only 19 more to go. Also, I miss Polish cheese. Throwback photo to a wintery trip to Poland with Camille, my best European traveling buddy, who continues to send me postcards from Europe 🙂. September 28, 2016. Two years in the Peace Corps. 2 months at site / 2 nights in the hospital. Today I get to celebrate 2 months in Santo Domingo, and I really do have cause to celebrate this tiny milestone. Foremost in my mind is the fact that I also get to celebrate being 2 days removed from a stint in the hospital this weekend. I’ll spare you the details, but suffice it to say that I had a severe case of bacterial gastroenteritis. Gross. Were delicious. Easy enough. But like I said, I have no idea if the coffee i...Leave...

https://marchumley.wordpress.com/2016/09/11/100-days-til-christmas
Two years in the Peace Corps. 100 Days ’til Christmas. Well, it’s technically 105 days until Christmas, but my Christmas comes on December 20th this year. I’m coming home for 2 weeks, and I could not be more excited. I’ve already requested my home cooked menu for my first day home – huevitos con chile with real tortillas de maíz for lunch, mole for dinner, obviously. Waterfalls, beaches, volcanic lakes, mountains, and monkeys. Que viva Ecuador! September 11, 2016. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The content ...
