hello pollyanna: The year that was... (2016)
http://hellopollyanna.blogspot.com/2017/01/the-year-that-was-2016.html
Monday, January 2, 2017. The year that was. (2016). Reading over my end-of-year reflections, I notice a pattern. Change is constant. It comes and goes in waves How would one cope otherwise? I moved to Canberra and broke up for the first time, twice. The following year, I travelled to New York and inched towards coming to terms with my decision to break up with a man I cared deeply for. I was happy for the time we had together yet sad. I would never meet someone like him again. 2014. To live on the edge:.

hello pollyanna: late nights (and tears)
http://hellopollyanna.blogspot.com/2016/11/late-nights-and-tears.html
Monday, November 7, 2016. Late nights (and tears). As some of you may be aware, I was one of 26 writers selected for the ACT Writers Centre HARDCOPY. Manuscript development program last year. It was an incredible. Unlike many of the other writers, I didn't begin HARDCOPY with a full manuscript. I didn't have a first chapter, let alone a first draft. I knew it was a coming-of-age memoir set in Canberra but not much else. who expects to work out a 'narrative arc' to their life, aged 24? Did readings and wa...

Monday, July 25, 2016. Second hateful July in a row. thankfully close to over! The next few weeks will be busy. I spent this weekend packing to move to my fifth (! hello pollyanna: February 2016
http://hellopollyanna.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 21, 2016. Why we tell stories. Sure, there are days when I miss Melbourne but I'm proud of Canberra. Last week: case in point. TUE: local talent showcase at Smith's Alternative. Including my cousin's band Winter Skyline. There's something magical about music. It makes me feel alive. You either understand this, or you don't.). I've been to more concerts than I can remember and six. Because there is always. In the endless chase, in the bid to 'tick' Flume. I listened. I really. Sooo many b...

hello pollyanna: what makes a good review
http://hellopollyanna.blogspot.com/2016/12/what-makes-good-review.html
Wednesday, December 28, 2016. What makes a good review. I love reading a good review. By good, I mean not 'five stars' but a review that illuminates and provokes thought in its reader, by drawing upon history, other works and/or personal experience. Felicity Plunkett shares the Seven Ingredients of a Good Review. I wholeheartedly agree with her advice. The best reviews host the text with style and grace, inviting their readers in.'. 8211; and r. hello pollyanna: NYWF (Sat)
http://hellopollyanna.blogspot.com/2016/11/nywf-sat.html
Thursday, November 3, 2016. Another thing I love about NYWF, which I only hinted at in my last post, is bumping into friends. At events / while walking down the street / at the Zine Fair / the Ocean Baths. A four day party spilling across Newcastle. Saturday is my 'day off'. I'm not scheduled for any events so I start the day with #LoveOzYA. On YA writing, chaired by my friend. Many readers, including adults, love YA but. I skipped it as a teen —. Mping from Enid Blyton to Jane Austen. When we talk about...

hello pollyanna: A few of my favourite things... (2016)
http://hellopollyanna.blogspot.com/2016/12/a-few-of-my-favourite-things-2016.html
Wednesday, December 21, 2016. A few of my favourite things. (2016). The end of the year is like the rising tide. It creeps up, bit by bit, then devours everything. My favourite things in previous years: 2015. This is the year I identified as a feminist and started thinking about race. how it intersects with my gender and how it affects the lives of other people. I still have a lot to learn but I'm less ignorant, less. Naïve This is my / our reality. Songs that defined 2016 for me: 'Smile' and 'Sorry'.

hello pollyanna: April 2016
http://hellopollyanna.blogspot.com/2016_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 28, 2016. Wrote a little story on producing Noted for The Writers Bloc. It’s the second afternoon of Noted writers’ festival and I’m racing the clock, criss-crossing Canberra, leaving a flurry of programs from Gungahlin to Tuggeranong. Me: “Is there a bookshop I could leave programs at? Librarian: “There is no bookshop in Gungahlin.”. You can read the rest here. So, I said I was feeling much, much better in my last post. What have I been doing, you ask. A Friday night street-party in Veri...
