Headline Tip #14: Numbers and Stats Add Up to Readers. May 3, 2012. Numbers make a very specific promise of what the reader is going to get in exchange for reading time. Data implies validity: it must be real if there are numbers attached. It is hard to disbelieve numbers. Numbers don’t lie. Only people do that. Numbers make ideas real, says Sarah Skerik, PRNewswire’s VP of social media. [ http:/ linkd.in/sYgwtc. If you have data within a press release, call it out in the headline. You must log in. Plus ...

Headline Tip #11: Twitter Invigorates Headlines. April 30, 2012. With its severe space restrictions Twitter is actually a headline enthusiast’s dream, and a throwback to the earliest days of journalism where short headlines ruled. A well-written short headline puts you ahead on a level playing field where everyone (even the establishment pros) has the same constraints and opportunities. Comments… add one now. You must log in. Barry Manilow: The Brand Plays On. Is a Yiddish term for rendered chicken fat. It doesn’t sound all that appetizing, does it? So calling something schmaltzy (or its goy cousin, cheesy ) is hardly a compliment. It means gooey sentimentalism, laid on thick. And why shouldn’t they? Manilow may not write the songs that make the. Manilow soldiers on, moving onstage like a stiff-legged metronome on his ‘farewell’ tour dubbed One Last Time (yeah, sure). Time Rebrand Labor Day? - WesHanson.com

http://weshanson.com/2014/09/01/rebranding-labor-day

Time Rebrand Labor Day? It’s time to give Labor Day a rest. Let’s rename it rebrand it, if you will. Let’s call it Irony Day, or maybe Opposite Day a holiday in honor of what it isn’t. Taking a day off to celebrate work you gotta love that. Plus, hasn’t a day originally set aside to honor unions become an anachronism, even disingenuous? And Communications Day could celebrate our obsession with ever-new ways to connect through technology not so much with each other than to our devices. September 1, 2014.

Writer's Corner

Helpful tips and writings from authors like you! Tuesday, December 1, 2015. I am living proof that NaNo doesn't kill everybody. I survived, AND I FINISHED MY NOVEL. So that's nice. Since my novel is based off of reality, I didn't hit the 50k mark because I could only extend my plot so much. But that's okay. I still feel like I won because I finished it. Currently, I am in the midst of plotting and writing a new WIP, which is going swimmingly. Congrats to ALL NaNo participants, whether you 'won' or not!

Mike Spiff Booth put together a nice music video that captures the feelings, which I watch from time to time. When I’m working on a story, I’ll often listen to music that reflects the mood I want to capture. This weekend, I wanted to create a creepy scene. It was only natural that I’d listen to. Headline Tip #15: Amuse, Don’t Confuse. May 4, 2012. The confused mind says no. Depending on your audience, client, and purpose, a dash of wit, a soupcon of wordplay can be just the thing to reel in your readers. Writing them usually involves more creativity and effort and makes not just the reading more fun but the writing too. A joke-y header or one-word title might not be descriptive but can still work if you add a subhead can explain your purpose. Headline Tip #14: Numbers and Stats Add Up to Readers.
