Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Winter Weather in Vermont, Possible Flooding in California, and a new Instagram. Going to the Mountains, Going Home. Exploring the draws of wilderness and community. Not Another Nature Blog! Elsewhere on the Web. February 23, 2013. Untracked snow across Kekekabic Lake. I stood up and panted. Jeff straightened from where he’d been pushing the bow. Sweat dripped from both of our faces. It was warm enough to ditch my hat, and the shin-deep snow melted against my pant legs. Yuh, it’s Maher. How’s it going back there? We’re slogging through, going slowly. How ‘bout you? Jeff stood up stra...

All-species fitness: The light stuff: anglerfish brighten up the depths
http://www.allspeciesfitness.com/2015/04/the-light-stuff-anglerfish-brighten-up.html
Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Thursday, April 9, 2015. The light stuff: anglerfish brighten up the depths. Goldfish showing off its tremendous fish-ness. Think of the fish you know best. They may look like this orange guy:. Having a certain hydro-dynamic shape facilitates movement in the ocean, so faster-moving fish (and marine mammals - think dolphins) tend to taper on both ends. In the ocean's depths, however, speed is less critical for survival. In patterns we don't yet understand.
All-species fitness: Commuting canines

Variations on food, fighting, fun, and form. Tuesday, April 23, 2013. When you have to take care of yourself in the urban jungle, a dose of instinct, ingenuity, and teamwork is mighty helpful. Blending in on the train. A motley crew of hundreds of stray dogs. Live in the suburbs of Moscow but commute into the city on the subway. Magic Mountain, VT. Finally had a chance to check out Magic Mountain in Southern VT. I’d heard great things about this quiet, locally owned ski area. It exceeded my expectations! A nice morning on the way to Sugarbush, decided to take the long way and snap a couple of pics along the back roads. Not a bad view for these sheep! When water freezes, ...

writingformysanity | another master's degree? why not!
Another master's degree? December 15, 2013. I think what I enjoyed most about this class was that it really did seem to strike a great balance between theory and practice. We had great discussions about our readings, shared some personal bits, broke bread together on several occasions, and learned together. To me, that’s a great scenario for higher education. Digital literacy is the ability to effectively and critically navigate, evaluate and create information using a range of digital technologies.
