Writing on Bananas

My blog - featuring food, drink and randomness. Thursday, 27 December 2012. Apsley's: A Heinz Beck Restaurant, The Lanesborough Hotel, Hyde Park Corner, London. The morning began with grumblings from Mr N, about our heading for lunch to a restaurant with a dress code. By noon he was appreciative that I’d insisted on proper shoes, as this was certainly the classiest dining experience of the year. Michelin starred Apsley’s. After an amuse bouche it was time for starters proper. The lunch menu was small...

Writing on Bananas: August 2011

http://writingonbananas.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

My blog - featuring food, drink and randomness. Wednesday, 31 August 2011. Albannach, 66 Trafalgar Square, London. WC2N 5DS. Pre-theatre dining can be a tense, rushed affair. Set menus are limited. Service is too fast to be pleasant. Atmosphere can be lacking. Albannach. On Trafalgar Square was none of those things. It proved to be an oasis of calm, in the Bank Holiday Monday early-evening slot before mine and H’s theatre trip. Seared Cornish Scallops, with butternut squash, pea puree and crispy bacon.

My blog - featuring food, drink and randomness. Monday, 24 September 2012. The Commonwealth Kitchen, 25 Northumberland Avenue, London, WC2N 5AP. It was a moment to savour – I had finally discovered an exceptional restaurant in the most touristy part of London! Minutes from Trafalgar Square, The Commonwealth Kitchen. Or the alternative of a bargainous set menu, makes it incredibly good value. K’s Soya barbeque Rhug estate pork belly, with pickled Norfolk radish, green tea and apple puree, was pretti...

Writing on Bananas: July 2011

http://writingonbananas.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

My blog - featuring food, drink and randomness. Monday, 11 July 2011. Brunch at The Lounge, North Road, Bedminster, Bristol. Has become a regular feature for slightly-hungover sunday brunches during my visits to Bristol, (particularly because it seems to be the only place in Bedminster which meets R's requirement of serving hash browns with their cooked breakfasts). This 'Lounge' is the original, more have sprung up since 2002, has a very chilled-out independent feel to it. How could I resist? Tastewise,...

Writing on Bananas: Turkish Delight, Chorlton cum Hardy, Manchester

http://writingonbananas.blogspot.com/2012/09/turkish-delight-chorlton-cum-hardy_28.html

My blog - featuring food, drink and randomness. Friday, 28 September 2012. Turkish Delight, Chorlton cum Hardy, Manchester. We had our hosts to thank for suggesting a visit, and I for one, couldn’t resist after hearing the name! Our expansive late lunch meant we savoured the deeply satisfying red Turkish wine (Buzbag), skipped starters, and went straight for main courses. Everything was perfect. I just wish we had all been hungrier so we could have tried more variety! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Writing on Bananas: April 2011

http://writingonbananas.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

My blog - featuring food, drink and randomness. Saturday, 23 April 2011. The Nag's Head, Malvern, Worcestershire, WR14 2JG. I am a fan of The Malvern Hills. Not too far from where I was born, I'd only visited once before, and despite being a grumpy teenager at the time, I couldn't help be impressed by the beauty of the countryside and enjoy scrambling up (and down) the rolling hills. Once I had my drink, I began to notice the quirks of the pub. The 'no swearing' rule, the warnings that food would be ...

Some Girl Over The Rainbow

Some Girl Over The Rainbow. Friday, June 14, 2013. There Is A New Baby Down On The Farm. Flowers, green grass. the birds and the bees. Andy and I look forward to spring and a chance to welcome new calves to our little herd of Black Angus cattle. We only have a few cows, but we enjoy watching them as they live their lives in our pastures. They are smart. They are good parents. They are protective too which means we can't get very close to our newest addition of only one week. Thursday, June 13, 2013.

Writing on Art by Hans Michaud

Writing on Art by Hans Michaud. Tuesday, April 7, 2015. What got you started in photography? Do you consider what you do 'art'? Or do you think of it more in terms of strict image-capture and study? Or do you think of it in entirely different terms? Did your earlier works differ considerably in substance and presentation from your more recent works? While I hope that my work has evolved in many ways over the years, I also feel that all along I have been consistently looking for the very same thing. How d...

25 Things About Me. Writing On A Vintage Typewriter. Books and reviews and writing, oh my! Don’t Ever Change by M. Beth Bloom Maybe change a little bit. August 17, 2015. August 17, 2015. Eva has always wanted to write a modern classic one that actually appeals to her generation. The only problem is that she has realized she can’t “write what she knows” because she hasn’t yet begun to live. So before heading off to college, Eva is determined to get a life worth writing about. Eva is a terrible counselor.

Summer at Hideaway Key by Barbara Davis. 13 August, 2015 6:00 AM. Managed WordPress Migration User. Breaking my I-don’t-post-reviews-here rule once again. Obviously, it’s a silly rule, meant to be broken when the urge comes upon me–as it did this morning when I finished reading Summer at Hideaway Key. Barbara Davis has done it again. She told me I’d love Lily-Mae. What she didn’t tell …. Read more →. Who Doesn’t Love to Read Accolades? 15 July, 2015 1:35 PM. Managed WordPress Migration User. Thirteen aut...

Writing on Broken Glass. MA Creative Writing Students' Blog. About Writing on Broken Glass. Murder for Dinner as told by Reggie Steepleton. July 7, 2011. So, Mister Bales, what do you love most about your profession? Nothing. Everyone I touch dies. I can’t go anywhere without there being a murder. I go to a dinner party? The host is lying face down in the soup. I go to a wedding? But surely it’s very exciting? That’s the worst thing, it’s got so predictable now! A bold claim, the Colonel snorted. I raced...
