My lung cancer odyssey. My odyssey from lung cancer diagnosis through lung cancer surgery for Stage 1 in Mar 2012 to as of now, May 2013, trying to survive Stage 4 lung cancer with metastasis to the brain. My Lung Cancer Timeline. Friday, May 31, 2013. Lung Cancer you have really, really pissed me off! Yes, I ‘heard’ that hair loss could be a side effect of brain radiation therapy. I even acquired a preemptive ‘fade cut’ however hair loss never happened. Radiologists and even my friends at Salon On Main ...

A Fresh Start: 100 things
http://lisannp.blogspot.com/2010/09/100-things.html
Wednesday, September 1, 2010. There's a guy named Dave who made the challenge to dwindle everything down to 100 personal items and he challenges others to do the same. The rules are individualized and are set to what you can live with. I have a plan to completely reorganize my priorities and everything in my life and this will be included. 3 Items counted in groups: Clothing: each separate group will be counted, such as underwear will be counted as 1 item, but I will have a limited number within the grou...

Ruth's Medical-logical Meanderings: November 2013

I love them because:. 1 - They keep me mobile. 2 - By keeping me mobile, they keep me physically active. 3 - There is considerably less pain walking with them. Me from being disabled. So to be safe, those of us on crutches or metal canes, must use a special wheelchair that must be made out of some sort of metal that isn't affected by magnets. Look To m...

Ruth's Medical-logical Meanderings: WBR: The Big Sleep
http://ruth-worldofcancer.blogspot.com/2014/04/wbr-big-sleep.html
Saturday, April 26, 2014. WBR: The Big Sleep. I have finished all but one round of WBR and the biggest warning that I got from the Doctor was that I would enter a state of fatigue that she compared with the hibernation of a bear. Here is a list of some weirder side-effects that I list here for anyone who may find them handy at some point:. 2 Warning – 2 = TMI point. Oh, Ladies, it’s like Satan’s evil minions are trampling on the delicate flower of womanhood of this middle-aged cancer chick...I know it...

Ruth's Medical-logical Meanderings: WBR: On the downhill
http://ruth-worldofcancer.blogspot.com/2014/04/wbr-on-downhill.html
Saturday, April 19, 2014. WBR: On the downhill. WBR mask - yes, that's me in there. I have officially completed 14 of 20 rounds of whole brain radiation, and I thought another update was in order to inform folks who may need this treatment someday and want information, or for those who are generally interested. Note: Many people undergoing WBR are given 10 or 15 rounds. I chose 20 in the hopes that it would minimize my side effects. It's been a bit of a slog, but so far, it has been worth it. Other side ...

Ruth's Medical-logical Meanderings: Chi-Chi Ran, But The Bird Was Faster
http://ruth-worldofcancer.blogspot.com/2014/06/chi-chi-ran-but-bird-was-faster.html
Sunday, June 29, 2014. Chi-Chi Ran, But The Bird Was Faster. I've known that I'd have to write this posting for some time, and I fear that I won't be faithful enough to the spirit of the writing. That being said, here goes. My wife, Ruth Anne Ashton, died on Friday, June 27. She was 48 years-old. I would like to add two things to this sad news. Never underestimate the value of black humor. Ruth and I enjoyed watching the television series Northern Exposure. Let me not to the marriage of true minds. If th...

Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Getting "The Face" and the Need for Formal Cancer Etiquette. Since my diagnosis, I have been the recipient of The Face on several occasions. I have tried to imitate "The Face" here:. In my experience, not much content comes with The Face. Maybe a little, awwww-poor-baby sort of mewlings, but basically, it's just The Face - and what do you do with just a face? So what I end up doing is making a comment like, "What are you gonna do? Or "You gotta do what you gotta do? Four years a...
