Greetings from Antarctica as the R/V Point Sur makes it’s way to Palmer Station. Behind me is a shot of Tower Island where our first group of scientists are collecting rock samples, looking for evidence of glaciers in Earth’s history during times when the planet was quite hot. This all relates to attempting to project the effects of climate change on our future. The Antarctic Ice Dodgers Blog. Is a great place to hang out and learn more about their work and life on board the Point Sur! A quick last note,...

Twelve Things To Do in Seward, Alaska. Greetings everyone, as I write to you while on vacation. Pardon my time between posts, however, after 62 days at sea, I simply shut my brain and my body down for awhile. Part of my time off has been spent in Seward, AK and here is a list of my “must-do’s”:. Go see Woody the stellar sea lion at the Alaska SeaLife Center. Check out the Seward Museum. This non-descript building houses a bevy of history in great displays with lots of artifacts and photographs. For great...

Sweet Chili Pork Chops with Fresh Peaches and Apricots | Well Spiced Life

Sweet Chili Pork Chops with Fresh Peaches and Apricots. Cooking at sea and cooking at home often share the same priorities – fresh, fast and flavorful. This is a great dish to use fresh summer peaches and apricots and make your meal preparation easier without sacrificing flavor thanks to bottled sweet chili sauce. Recently, I discovered Grama’s Sauce from Taste Nirvana. And it is yummy, however, any bottled sweet chili sauce will work. 6 – 8 boneless pork chops, thick cut. 5 apricots, same as peaches.

Making a Birthday Happy……at Sea! Thank you Cheryl Zurbrick, once again. Not only is Cheryl still blogging every day about our current trip. But she created the fabulous cake decorations for our birthday boy, Ben Jokinen, our Senior Marine Technician. Cheryl asked what Ben liked and I told her, “…camping, fishing, his doggies and his fiancee, of course.” After a good bit of planning and sketching and raiding of the pantry, Cheryl got to work. A Well Spiced Break. I just had to post this picture as it was the best example of some of the things I have been doing instead of blogging! Thank you to many folks who reminded me that they would like to hear from me. Well, though I have not been posting my days away, I have been cooking and I am still sailing. Meet the lady in the plastic bubble…Cheryl Zurbrick, Ph.D. student at the University of California – Santa Cruz. She does come out of her bubble and she blogs…. Personal Chef to Go.

Happy Birthday, DAD! | Well Spiced Life
http://www.wellspicedlife.com/2010/07/23/happy-birthday-dad/comment-page-1
Happy Birthday, DAD! Last year I carried a “Hi Mom” sign around in my travels and the pictures were seen by my dad who commented, “What about your dad! 8221; If I was on my toes I would have written a dad message on the other side and flipped the sign for photo ops all over the world. Well, dad, I will make this year the year of the “Dad sign”. I hope you like this shot which I took by myself on walkabout on Amchitka Island. And, here is wishing you a very, very happy birthday! Hope you are well.
