It's about dignity: August 2009
http://wyapres.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 19, 2009. In 4 hours I leave WYA Africa, so sad! I'll miss scuma wiki (spinach) and Kenyan tea at all hours of the day. Thankfully I was served less matoke (deep fried banana) this trip, so my bum is less large than it otherwise would have been. We all cracked up! Apparently she was concerned he was driving badly as he was low on sleep and thought he should take a rest and be with his family for the safety of other drivers. We had our first chance to all be together and share stories...

It's about dignity: January 2009
http://wyapres.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 20, 2009. This past December I drove 13 hours north of NYC with my sister, Anna, to go home for Christmas. I hadn't been home in a full year, not since last Christmas. We left at 8am from NY, and after 6 or so hours we finally found a Starbucks, and I splurged on a white chocolate mint mocha, or something along those lines - so yummy! Home sweet home, Mom had prepared delicious food, Dad had prepared one of his non-recipe specialties which tasted horrible and we left it all for him!

It's about dignity: July 2009
http://wyapres.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2009. One of the organisations, Vision Youth Action, had organised a conference for us of 160 youth. We had 2 hours to present and also for Q&A. The questions were great, the facilitator prefaced her question by announcing that she intended to apply for Asia Pacific's summer camp next May. I did eat: shark's fin, shark's fin skin, bamboo mushroom, jellyfish, starfish, eel, eggs from a deep sea fish, and more. I also ate cold chicken that looked uncooked chopped through the skin,...

It's about dignity: June 2009
http://wyapres.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, June 2, 2009. There is a viewpoint in our culture that in order for someone to be successful they must work very hard, sacrifice a great deal, be without friends, miss out on important family moments, suffer from high cholesterol and heart problems, and basically choose between quality of life or success. The same applies to artistic and creative people; they should be socially awkward, impractical and suffer from wild mood-swings. Monday, June 1, 2009. How do we solve poverty? I recently read a...

Rock the Boat: The Sunshine Post #30: On Learning Something I Cannot Spell
http://the-trailblazer.blogspot.com/2008/07/sunshine-post-30-on-learning-something.html
Monday, July 14, 2008. The Sunshine Post #30: On Learning Something I Cannot Spell. And so I am doing capoeira. I am doing capoeira. (I know, right? Sheesh. I guess I have to learn Portuguese now, too. Lech. And I haven’t even gotten my black belt in taekwondo yet. Talk about a jack-of-all-trades and master of none.) I couldn’t even pronounce this, let alone spell it, years ago. After the first class, I welcomed the familiar feeling of being so sore and achy, with my feet black from the mat, and the unde...

Rock the Boat: The Sunshine Post #27: Bugged and Bothered
http://the-trailblazer.blogspot.com/2008/06/sunshine-post-27-bugged-and-bothered.html
Monday, June 16, 2008. The Sunshine Post #27: Bugged and Bothered. Dang it, I’m mad. I have been stood up by a record eleven people in four days on six different occasions. Eleven! Dear God. Do I look like someone who has a lot of idle time on her hands? Leche*. Argh, if there’s one thing I hate worse than being late, it’s not showing up at all. Tsk. Such an insult to my feminine charms, yo. Am I this cancelable? Ok, deep breath. And release. Ahhhhhh. Off to yoga! No humans for a week! I’m a little...

Rock the Boat: The Sunshine Post #25: Twenty-Five and Still Alive
http://the-trailblazer.blogspot.com/2008/06/sunshine-post-25-twenty-five-and-still.html
Wednesday, June 4, 2008. The Sunshine Post #25: Twenty-Five and Still Alive. Dalawampu’t lima. Er sher wu. Di tsah goh. Viente cinco. Vingt-cinq. Twenty five. Hmm I’ve written this in all the languages I know but it still feels strangely new to me. Ah, but yes! What good is a blog without the necessary reflective post that I will cringe at years from now? Here are twenty-five points to commemorate twenty-five years:. Five Things I Will Do For a Long Time, if Not Forever. Long live the power of the Whee!

Rock the Boat: The Sunshine Post #26: Retroviral Reflections and the Wonders of 'Wawa'
http://the-trailblazer.blogspot.com/2008/06/sunshine-post-26-retroviral-reflections.html
Monday, June 9, 2008. The Sunshine Post #26: Retroviral Reflections and the Wonders of 'Wawa'. My unspoken vow of silence and isolation was broken this Saturday, when I had to speak the whole day for work. I know, right? For a “Director of Communications,” I’ve been pretty silent and anti-social, yo! I can explain stuff without making people fall asleep! See, science isn’t that boring and hard! Something I can eat! Amazing. I am so happy to be here! But yow, you guys, I am glad for the more stoic, non-Fi...

It's about dignity: December 2008
http://wyapres.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Tuesday, December 16, 2008. Everywhere a sign, blocking out the scenery breaking my mind. It is said a sign is a window into the soul of a culture, no? Perhaps these will convey a small glimpse of another culture. Billboard over beauty shop in countryside, Uganda "God is Here". It is strictly prohibited to wash cars along roadside" - entering Uganda. Welcome to Uganda, Keep Left" - entering Uganda. God is Love" - Forex Bureau in Kigali, Rwanda. Gain hips and bum, call #." - Kampala, Uganda. There have be...
