Papua New Guinea Travelogue

Papua New Guinea (plus Brisbane, Australia) - August 2002. This travelogue describes my trip to Papua New Guinea, which was divided roughly between the Highlands (including the Mount Hagen Cultural Show) and the Sepik River area. On the way over, I spent a few days in Brisbane, Australia, so I wrote about that as well. I've broken it into a few chapters, largely to make it easier to read. Ghana, Togo, and Benin - March / April 2006. This travelogue describes my trip to West Africa (Ghana, Togo, and Benin) in March and April of 2006. The why of this trip is straightforward. Seeing a total solar eclipse was an item on my life list. As for background reading, I picked up Bradt's guidebook for Ghana. I also looked through Lonely Planet and Rough Guide for West Africa at the library, but neither was particularly up to date. Rereading the Benin and Togo chapters in Peter Biddlecombe's.

Digging Fiji - January 2008. Fiji seems a rather unlikely place for me to visit, since I'm not a lie on the beach in the sun type of vacationer. My lack of interest in the typical tourism there is exactly why I chose to sign up for an Earthwatch expedition. There The particular project was Fiji's Ancient Seafarers. Newfoundland and Labrador - August / September 2007. This travelogue discusses my "cruise" to northern Labrador on the M/V Northern Ranger. There were a few days in St. John's, Newfoundland on either side. The word "cruise" is in quotes because I've realized that most people don't consider a berth on a coastal ferry / cargo ship to qualify. But it was exactly my sort of excursion. As for the practicalities, the Ranger is operated by Provincial Ferry Services. Puffin' Away in St. John's and Bay Bulls.
