Hemophilia

Hemophilia is caused by the absence of a blood-clotting protein or one that does not function. Without this protein, clots do not form over wounds. About 90% of individuals have a mutation in the factor VIII gene, known as Hemophilia A. The other 10% have a mutation in the factor IX gene or another clotting gene. Enter secondary content here. The symbol for this protein is DHRSX. It is a dehydrogenase/reductase(SDR family) and is located at Xp22.33. It is at the end of the long and short arms of the x and y chromosome. This section is relevant to meiotic pairing and recombination. Genes in this region do not undergo x-inactivation. If this region is deleted it may cause male sterility. A factor activity test finally confirms whether one has Hemophilia and which form he has. The test determines how well each clotting gene performs compared to an unaffected person.
