Since they have been “sold” on the idea that importance comes with having fashion, celebrity, and possessions, they use those means to try to fill the gaping hole that the seeming worthlessness of their lives holds. Thus we have that mantra: more, more, more. And so we have moments of peace, release, and knowing.
