Best laid plans | A Year in Berlin
http://yearinberlin.com/2012/06/22/best-laid-plans
A Year in Berlin. While travelling along the B96, en route to another abandoned sanitorium, we noticed a grey monument at the side of the road. We saw it too late and were driving too quickly to turn in and take a look. We promised ourselves to look for it on the way back and I’m glad we did. It turned out to be one of the most unique monuments we’ve found so far. There are lots of Soviet monuments throughout what was East Germany. And it’s understandable. According to Wikipedia. To this monument online ...
Breaking into Beelitz | A Year in Berlin
http://yearinberlin.com/2012/05/21/breaking-into-beelitz
A Year in Berlin. I know I’m not the only one but I love a bit of dereliction. Discarded items in abandoned buildings have a very special poignancy. They’re a chance to see what happens when life stops, but time keeps ticking. Click for Beelitz-Heilstätten photo gallery. Beelitz-Heilstätten was built in the 1890s to treat the increasing number of people suffering from tubercolosis. It became a military hospital for the imperial German Army during First World War and was taken over by the Soviets afte...
The curious tale of Tegel’s Boeing 707 | A Year in Berlin
http://yearinberlin.com/2012/03/27/the-curious-tale-of-tegels-boeing-707
A Year in Berlin. The curious tale of Tegel’s Boeing 707. If there’s anything I’ve learned about Berlin, it’s that everything has a history. Everything. And if something looks a little out of the ordinary, that’s because it is. A few weeks ago we went for a walk around Rehberge and Tegel Airport. The walk took us to the far western end of the airport’s perimeter fence. At the end of the runway, hidden behind a patch of woodland is a big old Boeing 707. Tegel Airport’s Boeing 707, March 2012. Boeing 707s ...
Vogelsang: A Soviet ghost town | A Year in Berlin
http://yearinberlin.com/2013/05/08/vogelsang-a-soviet-ghost-town
A Year in Berlin. Vogelsang: A Soviet ghost town. It’s been a while since we did a bit of ‘Urbex’ (urban exploration) – particularly of abandoned sites. Blame it on the winter. We did a cluster of them last year and I wrote about them in Breaking into Beelitz. And Best Laid Plans. Hospital ward, perhaps? First of all, credit where credit is due: we learned pretty much everything about this place from Abandoned Berlin’s Vogelsang post. The whole Abandoned Berlin. It’s not a bomb, right? The first thing we...
The Sternburg stigma | A Year in Berlin
http://yearinberlin.com/2012/08/28/the-sternburg-stigma
A Year in Berlin. I first visited Berlin in March 2005. I knew absolutely nothing about the city. I was on my own but I knew one person and we agreed to meet up in Prenzlauer Berg – Berlin’s coolest district, back then. That’s what I did. When the barman took the beer out of the fridge, I had a moment to notice the white on red star on the bottle-top before he whipped it off with his opener. That seemed kinda cool too and it tasted good to me. Kirst and I with a couple of Sterni’s at the Slowlympics.

Is an umberella term for my film projects. I always have a few projects on the go and I'm always trying to find time to develop them. I'm very excited by the completion of A Nuclear Family. A very personal documentary about family, divorce and relationships. I've achieved most with a documentary about East Germany called My DDR T-Shirt. I've also had some great responses from two short documentaries Our Man in Harrogate. Is the freelance creative agency founded with my partner, Kirstie Adamson.

A Year in Bethany | Joanna Weaver
When I first wrote. Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World. I never could have imagined that the Lord would use it in the way He has to deepen our devotion to Him, and then go on to use. Having a Mary Spirit. In similar ways. This trilogy of books which follows three friends of Jesus, a brother and two sisters from Bethany, has opened the eyes of my heart to God’s immense love for us in a fresh way. A(nother) Year in Bhutan
A(nother) Year in Bhutan. Bhutan in summer: When even the dogs turn green. Don't go to Bhutan in the summer! Hotels are packed, roads are crowded, everyone is jockeying for position to get that 'perfect' shot of the festival dancer.I can't help but feel like they miss so very much of what makes Bhutan such a phenomenal place. Bhutan in summer can provide a much more meaningful experience. I love Bhutan in the summertime. (Full disclosure: I love Bhutan in winter, too.). Other festivals in Bumthang. Push ...
Year in Blue
Friday, March 9, 2012. New project for 2012. So much good came of this year-long project. A year ago I could barely stutter the words, "I'm an artist." Today, I own that title comfortably. I completed a years worth of photographs, as well as two large mosaic commissions, and started on a third. So there's no way I'm giving up this productive daily art habit! Thank you so much for joining me on this journey. I invite you to j. Http:/ thesketchbookconcern.wordpress.com/. Monday, February 6, 2012. For those...
year in bolivia
Tuesday, October 7, 2008. Well, our life back in Alaska has swallowed us back up and it feels very strange to have such recent memories of Bolivia. It is such a different place than Alaska. We read of Bolivia in the papers and hear about it on the radio once in a while, and we feel very far away. I watched the presidential candidate. Debate tonight and I wish both the candidate. Had more compassion towards other countries. It seems foreign policy is all about strategy. Thursday, April 24, 2008. We are re...
