The Splatter: June 2015
http://yrarc-splatter.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 23 June 2015. Notes from the Shack - ARRL June VHF Contest. The above photo is before the choke was installed. Below is how it looks after installation. As you can see it made quite a difference. Only one contact was made on Friday evening, which was with John VA3JI, at a distance of about 10km. I heard C6AT in the Bahamas as well, and he copied part of my call before fading away forever. That was the only Sporadic E activity heard the entire weekend. Labels: June VHF Contest. It's also interest...

The Splatter: July 2015
http://yrarc-splatter.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Monday, 27 July 2015. Words of Wisdom from the Past. About transmission lines. This article, by an unknown author but edited by Doug VE3CWO (Now VE3VS) provides some pointers on understanding transmission lines. It has been scanned from the January 1974 edition of the Splatter and passed through optical character recognition for publication here. You can see the entire newsletter. Scanned from an original on the YRARC web site. Thanks to Bob VE3WY and Rob VE3RQB for passing this along. No matching device...

The Splatter: YRARC Hamfest 1988
http://yrarc-splatter.blogspot.com/2015/08/yrarc-hamfest-1988.html
Monday, 3 August 2015. So far I've scanned 8, which is about 5% of what I have. I'll be continuing to scan and to post them on the blog and elsewhere. Old timers are encouraged to contribute stories about those in the photos, many of whom I have never met, and some of whom I will never meet in this life. I have always appreciated things from the past and am happy to see these items which I can include in the club archives. Let`s see who can be the first to identify the two hams in the photo below. Minute...

The Splatter: QSO with Former Club Member
http://yrarc-splatter.blogspot.com/2015/08/qso-with-former-club-member.html
Sunday, 9 August 2015. QSO with Former Club Member. His QTH, like many Canadians it seems, is now Fort Myers, Florida. His qrz.com page lists his address as a condo, so I suspect JT65 is a great way for him to get his signal out with a stealth antenna. Here's a picture of his new rig, a Yaesu FTDX1200. 10 August 2015 at 09:06. I heard from Ron Gibson VE3CGR who let me know he was a member in the late 90s. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Splatter: History of the York Region Amateur Radio Club
http://yrarc-splatter.blogspot.com/2015/08/history-of-york-region-amateur-radio.html
Friday, 7 August 2015. History of the York Region Amateur Radio Club. I notice in my web searches an excerpt from the history of the club, noting that it was taken from the club web site. This led me on another series of searches because the history of the club is no longer on our web site, having been lost in the ravages of being passed from person to person. History of the York North Amateur Radio Club. The first twenty years. On March 11, 1959, a meeting of the Newmarket. During September and October,...

The Splatter: EmComm Newsletter July 2015
http://yrarc-splatter.blogspot.com/2015/08/emcomm-newsletter-july-2015.html
Saturday, 15 August 2015. EmComm Newsletter July 2015. First published, July 26th, 2015]. Welcome to the first, and I hope an ongoing semi-regular newsletter, from EmComm to our serviced partners and other interested parties. It is my plan to reach out on some sort of regular bases to update the goings on of the EmComm group. So let’s start. We have reached out to a couple of municipalities to let them know we are here to help, and hopefully ensure when moving forward that we cover all our bases. For all...

The Splatter: YRARC Supports the Newmarket Jazz Festival
http://yrarc-splatter.blogspot.com/2015/08/yrarc-supports-newmarket-jazz-festival.html
Tuesday, 11 August 2015. YRARC Supports the Newmarket Jazz Festival. I would like to take a moment and thank all the radio club members who volunteered to help make the Newmarket Jazz Fest. Another success this year. I know those who were present Sunday evening were challenged by the weather events. And it was handled very professionally and no one was injured. The list of volunteers below are the ones that made this event extra safe and special. They are in no particular order. Ron – KG4CVL. Founded in ...
