Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: April 2012
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 24 April 2012. THE ZIM4X4 APRIL ADVENTURE SAFARI. Follow me" I cried, and plunged my 80 Series Cruiser into the gleaming white sands of the Chiruwe River, in Mana Pools - and promptly sank straight into them, not twenty metres on. Peter Emmanuel, still on the bank behind me, was already getting his winch cable ready when Mac Bailey, our technical guru and owner of Zimbabwe's only 4x4 driving academy, strolled round the front of my car. I finally get going across the Chiruwe. THE MIDDLE JESSE ROAD.

Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: July 2013
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Monday, 22 July 2013. INTERIM NEWSLETTER, JULY 2013. Just a brief interim newsletter this time, as we're writing between safaris, in the midst of our busy season. We're just back from an extremely pleasant safari with Steve Clarkson and his family, which took us through. At Kariba we were told the fishing was "terrible", but in fact we had some of the best catches of the year to date, on the Matusadona National Park shoreline, which just goes to show you can't always trust local information! On the weste...

Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: May 2012
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Friday, 4 May 2012. No 31, MAY 2012. ZIMN4X4's newsletter is sent by request to over 400 readers throughout southern Africa and the world. Let us know if you'd also like to receive it by email. Our April Adventure was a great success. We were a small group, due to late drop-outs, but probably all the better for that: Peter and Carol Emmanuel from South Africa, Kevin and Michelle Heyes from the UK, Mac Bailey - ZIM4x4's resident technical guru and recovery expert - and of course Sally and myself. From Che...

Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: July 2012
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Friday, 20 July 2012. We at ZIM4x4 - that is to say Sally and I, let's not overstate our size - like to think we are conservationists first, and safari operators second. Without conservation, living one's life surrounded by wildlife in wild places is little more than an exercise in self-gratification. Being in tourism - and especially wilderness tourism - can be all too reminiscent of theatre. Although a lot of our star actors are as capricious as human celebs - - step forward, lions and wild dogs -.

Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: November 2012
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html
Monday, 26 November 2012. WHERE DO WE WANDER? ZIM4x4's operations - see www.zim4x4.co.zw. Are confined to a relatively small part of Zimbabwe, for two good reasons. One, because we know it so well, having worked and travelled in it for over 30 years; and two, why settle for less when we've got the best? The Zambezi. Who can fail to be thrilled by the romance of this iconic river? It is only relatively recently that the immense value of this part of the river has been acknowledged. First, in 1983, cam...

Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: 2013 IN PICTURES
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2014/02/2013-in-pictures.html
Monday, 10 February 2014. Just a few pictures from ZIM4x4's activities in 2013 - not necessarily the 'exhibition shots', just those that evoke memories of a lot of enjoyable times on safari in the Zambezi Valley and on Lake Kariba. Taken by Sally (Canon SX500IS) and Dick (Canon 30D). Our year begins at Mana, in January 2013, with hundreds of elephants gathering near the Zambezi to feast on the beautifully green new grass. Hazy mornings on Lake Kariba. Great times, just sittin' and watchin' - rewarded, in...

Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: NEWSLETTER, MAY 2015
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2015/05/newsletter-may-2015.html
Friday, 29 May 2015. NEWSLETTER, MAY 2015. Newsletter 43, May 2015. GREEN SEASON No.2! Keep an eye on the weather", I wrote recently, in the WildZambezi newsletter apropos of rainy-season travel in the Zambezi Valley. "A few days' sunshine can make a big difference", I continued, "and so can an approaching cyclone.". Lake Kariba is a lot lower than it has been for some years, and seems set to drop a good deal more during the forthcoming dry season, thanks - we can only imagine - to increased output from ...

Zambezi Wanderings with ZIM4x4: December 2012
http://zim4x4.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 12 December 2012. HAVE YOU SEEN ANYTHING? We're pottering around - say - Mana Pools in our Land Cruiser, and someone coming the other way pulls up beside us, brandishing a hugely expensive camera. We exchange greetings. Then -. Have you seen anything? My interlocutor looks a bit uncomfortable. "Yes, but have you seen.umm. something? I'm determined to drag it out of him. "What do you mean by something? Weller.you know, lions. The Dogs". As a matter of fact we did see 'something'. You have to ta...
