Adventures in Fathersitting: January 2013

http://adventuresinfathersitting.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 9, 2013. The smell of hospitals in winter,. And the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls. On March 22, 1997, Lori and I and a few friends caravanned down to St. Louis from our hometown of Jacksonville to watch the Counting Crows in concert. The show was spectacular. Our relationship was new and exciting. Over the next several months we would travel to St. Louis several times, pretending to be adults in a big. Greenfield. What a cute town, but I'd never live here. Green...

Adventures in Fathersitting: November 2013

http://adventuresinfathersitting.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 4, 2013. Though the flesh be bugged, the circumstances of existence are still pretty glorious. Jack Kerouac, The Dharma Bums. And I had my reasons, which made the choice all the more poignant. 34 is not just another number. I mean, it is, but not for me. 34 is the age my brother-in-law never got to see because cancer snuck up on him shortly after his 33rd birthday and won the battle 4 months later. In April, cancer took the life of my friend and gifted scientist, Clay Davis. So here I am!

Adventures in Fathersitting: December 2013

http://adventuresinfathersitting.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 19, 2013. The end (or, looking at my crotch). I have a hole in the crotch of my favorite jeans. I'm wearing them right now. But I'm at the public library, so it's cool. We're all a bit tattered here. These jeans fit me very well. They are torn in all the right places. They are just the right color. They hang on my waist just the way I like. Sure there's the crotch issue, but I don't really care. It's a discrete transgression. I took them into the seamstress and she rolled her eyes when...

Sassertations: April 2011

http://sassertations.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 22, 2011. Hope everyone's Easter is at least as cozy as this:. Why does it ever have to be more complicated than that? That ROI is looking pretty good too. Links to this post. Tuesday, April 19, 2011. My mid-work-day walk had me find a really random, really old cemetery tucked in a park near my building. Don't mind if I do. The experience was obviously noteworthy. What it wasn't: good for my allergies. What it was: good for my mortality. I feel so congested. I feel so alive. He would call t...

Sassertations: November 2010

Saturday, November 27, 2010. Thank You for Flying Me. After treating myself to airport sushi, I make my way back to whatever distant wing of the airport where they keep bovine, spare parts, and the Southwest gates. It's like home. Just not the kind of home you show new friends. (There's a reason Southwest tickets cost $12.75 and let you check whatever oversized garbage you and a dolly can carry out of the house.). Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Yesterday, sometime between 9 am, and 4 pm (or as I see it: Sometime between oatmeal o’clcok and pre-dinner grapefruit o’clock), our house was broken into. Viotlated. Robbed. Smashed. Wrecked. BLED ON. Panty raided. But then I felt flattered again when I heard. Describe my untouched and unscathed bike as being worth $2,000. I didn’t correct her. It is a beautiful bike…. Blood on my bed? Come on, O.J! Links to this post. Friday, May 21, 2010. Touched by an Angel. It's been about f...

How the most minimum amount of airline status has ruined my life. I recently booked a last-minute flight to New York for the Fourth of July, but everything on Delta was close to 1k week of, and I just drain my Skymiles the moment I get them, so I was on a cash-only budget. I booked with United and had a "see agent" kind of seat assignment. Exciting! When I got to my gate, I noticed that FRA, M. was listed for a first-class upgrade. Um, that's me! No That's not you. No That's not you. Through a series of ...

Its not just a job, its an adventure. March 26, 2008. She Just Had Surgery. Really. I know, I have said it before, but kids are amazing. This week she has been just like normal. Being herself and doing her therapies. We have to keep telling ourselves, and everyone else, that she just had surgery. Not that I'm complaining that this has been easy, its just odd to have one that is this easy. Posted by Matt at 07:47 AM. March 18, 2008. First Time For Everything. Posted by Matt at 09:48 PM. Tales of a journey through infertility into (hopefully) fatherhood. On May 19th 2010. Today, this blog (such as it is) turned a year old. Tuesday, January 25, 2011. Catching up and heading off. Today is my very last day in Fremantle and I see it's been well over 2 months since my last post. It feels like about 4 days to be honest. I caught the stupid red-eye flight which leaves Perth at midnight and arrives in Sydney at 7am. I've been advised that this is part of being a Perth local. I should have replied, "Well, I'm not really, am I? A French restaurant inside one of the sails of the Opera House. It's a rare two hat restaurant where t...
