The African History Association is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) that teaches Black History through lectures, films, and the internet. The association was organized December 29, 1994 in Dallas, TX. The purpose of the association is to teach the rich history of black people. Jamaican-born chess player Maurice Ashley became the first Black Grandmaster in 1999. That same year, he opened the Harlem Chess Center, where he began coaching young chess players.

Nathaniel Alexander was the first to patent the folding chair. His invention was designed to be used in schools, churches and at large social gatherings.
