A Kitchen Takes Root. The journey of a transplanted cook, exploring the foods of the Pacific Northwest. If youre not familiar with it, think of braciole as frugality all dressed up for Sunday dinner! Its usually reserved for special occasions but make no mistake, this is peasant food. The ingredients are relatively inexpensive, so visit your butcher and grocer to buy top quality local, organic ingredients. Whats with the egg? Yield: Makes 8 braciole. Time: 40 minutes prep, 2 hours cooking. Make these for...

A Kitchen Takes Root. The journey of a transplanted cook, exploring the foods of the Pacific Northwest. Grilled Pork Loin in Tequila Mustard Marinade. My brother and I enjoyed some friendly competition (he does make a mean rack of smoked pork ribs) while our sister was out of commission with a sprained wrist. Oh, I do love dining al fresco! Time: 5.5 hours (4 hours marinating time plus cooking time). Level: Easy but requires a gas grill. 1 - 5 pound pork loin roast. 1/2 cup olive oil. 1 tbsp mustard seeds.

A Kitchen Takes Root. The journey of a transplanted cook, exploring the foods of the Pacific Northwest. Baked Chicken and Artichokes. Spring is finally here and the longer daylight hours entice me to stay outdoors as long as possible. This recipe will take only 20 minutes (maybe less) in prep, and the rest is oven time. Ive been working on a few versions of this one so my friends and loved ones are about over chicken and artichokes by now. Time: 1 hour and 20 minutes. Click to view recipe.

A Kitchen Takes Root. The journey of a transplanted cook, exploring the foods of the Pacific Northwest. Honey-Almond Cake with Apricot Whipped Cream. Im pretty sure that if I took a close look Id find that half of my friends are either gluten-free or wheat-free - and the other half is avoiding white sugar. Desserts are a real challenge around here. I just got some incredible honey from Hummingbird Wholesale and decided I had to make something special for Springtime and my g-free friends. Time: 1 1/2 hours.
