Alberg 30 sailboat project

Alberg 30 sailboat project. This Blog will chronicle the complete restoration of an Alberg 30 sailboat. Saturday, August 11, 2012. The inflatable dingy we used as a tender was getting a little threadbare and since it had no motor, it severely limited our options for use. An inflatable can be very difficult to row in the trade winds. I decided to build a nesting dingy and after a little research online I settled on the Chameleon nesting dinghy designed by Danny Greene. The next day we split the halves and...

http://alberg30.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Alberg 30 sailboat project. This Blog will chronicle the complete restoration of an Alberg 30 sailboat. Thursday, October 14, 2010. Speaking of wire, we've been tackling some of that lately. I decided that the led lighting and low current draw items would be easier to run from two Blue Seas fuse boxes. The original plan was to use all gold plated fixtures below decks and stainless on deck thereby reducing the need to polish as the stainless and gold plating doesn't tarnish like brass and bronze. It does ...

Alberg 30 sailboat project: Sailing Hawaiian Waters

http://alberg30.blogspot.com/2012/08/sailing-hawaiian-waters.html

Alberg 30 sailboat project. This Blog will chronicle the complete restoration of an Alberg 30 sailboat. Monday, August 6, 2012. In Hawaii there are only three foot tides and the currents move along at a mere knot or two. The weather is for the most part clear and beautiful with a constant trade wind blowing 20-25 kts. The channels and harbors are clearly marked and well lit. The laid back island style and pleasant weather can lull one into a state of cheerful complacency. Then when sailing out of the...

Alberg 30 sailboat project. This Blog will chronicle the complete restoration of an Alberg 30 sailboat. Sunday, December 18, 2011. That left just one intact rivet and the tweaked one holding it together.not good! How did I miss this on previous deck-walks! After that I looked up the mast at the long row of rivets fastening the sail track. I hope I don't have to replace all of those! I got to the spreaders and immediately spotted some problems. The top rivets securing the port spreader plate had faile...

Poema's Odyssey: April 2012

http://poemaodyssey.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 29, 2012. My dream of traveling around the world solo has been accomplished. I am now embarking for another dream of mine, more like a lifestyle, about living my life simply in a country I love, doing something I love because what we love inspire us and make us better. Right now I'm trying to extract (cold pressed) coconut oil to have cooking oil, which will be more healthy and free. I will tell you more about this later when I succeed. Who ever wants to be part of the adventure and spend s...

Restore 24: August 2010

http://restore24.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Restoring a 1974 San Juan 24 Sailboat. Thursday, August 26, 2010. The previous owners were not real big on preventative maintenance. As part of clearing off the deck hardware, the mast was pulled yesterday. It is surprising that nothing bolts the mast to the step. The mast is solely held to the mast step by the compression of the shrouds and stays. Wednesday, August 25, 2010. Ahh, They Fixed it. What to do if your pulpit or stanchions are are bent and the base lifts off the deck? More sealant, what else!

Restoring a 1974 San Juan 24 Sailboat. Saturday, December 4, 2010. Has an interesting post about cutting up his San Juan 24. He took pictures of the relevant structural areas during dissection. This is a brilliant idea. Many owners want to know what the hidden structures are while contemplating repairs, but before cutting into the boat. Check it out here. Labels: Donated to science. Restoring a 1974 San Juan 24 Sailboat. Monday, September 19, 2011. I removed the mast head and base fittings to replace the sheaves, halyards and wiring. Wednesday, September 7, 2011. I have added 120 pounds (about 9%) to the bottom of the keel. This weight is made up of four lead pigs lag-bolted to the keel and sealed with 3M 5200. The pigs were rectangular with dimensions of about 2 x 4 x 8 inches. The picture shows early stages of fairing the bricks. Here is a video that describes the process. There h...

Restoring a 1974 San Juan 24 Sailboat. Thursday, November 22, 2012. I have been replacing all exterior teak with custom made plastic components. This should greatly reduce maintenance. The projects are machined from AZEK PVC decking planks. The color is Slate. As a decking material these planks carry a lifetime warranty and are UV resistant. The material can be worked with normal wood working tools. Tape with special Dow Corning 791 silicone window sealant. With a MAP gas torch. Labels: 3M VHB tape.

The Alberg 30 Project

The Alberg 30 Project. The (slow) Restoration of a 1964 Alberg 30, hull #48. Tuesday, August 18, 2015. I had a couple unexpected hours to myself this afternoon, so I worked on installing the settee backs. As it turned out, the remnants of 1/2" ply from the settee tops were just enough material to construct the settee backs. First, however, I had to define the location of the backs - including distance off the centerline and the angle of the seat back. With all of these pieces coming together, it will soo...
