An Hour to Spare – carriedotcom

An Hour to Spare. April 7, 2015. You stand tall waiting patiently. You know I will eventually come back. A day off here, a weekend without back-to-back obligations there. For some reason I have it in my head that I need a minimum of an hour to do you justice. I know deep down that’s not true. Thirty minutes will do. That’s all it takes to reap the benefits. My. Confirms such suspicions. Meeting up with you regularly for thirty minutes will give me a solid three to four thousand additional steps. I am goi...

May 26, 2015. May 26, 2015. There is an ending. There is a new beginning. Don’t miss the beginning by mourning the ending. Don’t miss the ending with anticipation for the beginning. Always planning for the future. Always looking back to what was. Papers, calendars, orders, books. Notes, reminders, dates. So hard to be present in the here and now. When the past and future keep knocking on my door. Everyone Has a Story. A Ribbon in March. I'll Give You All This And More. Raising a Literate Human.

Blogging my way through the year. Laquo; The Flower Girl. I am a Writer. On March 30, 2015. Slice of Life March Writing Challenge! There is a sound…. One that I can’t escape…. A sound that turns my smile into a tight frown…. It makes me cringe…. It gives me the shivers…. It is like the painful noise that comes from nails on a chalkboard….It is the sound of my husband…. I am constantly surrounded by the sound of crunching at meal times. I used to grin and bear it. I used to leave the room. I used to disli...

Blogging my way through the year. Slice of Life Tuesdays! It was a perfect summer day…. The perfect day to celebrate a huge milestone…. Party in full swing. I can’t believe she is one’s. Then the time came…. This cake, made with the happy, loving hands of Mommy and Daddy and Nana and Papa…frosted the way Mommy’s was way back in the day. Daintily touch the frosting? There was no face in the cake. There was no bits of smashed cake everywhere. There was a quiet poke here,. A lick there,. A puzzled look,.

April 2014 – carriedotcom

April 15, 2014. There they sat. Two grey-haired people. About the same age. Heads together, looking at something on their phone. Then just talking. Eating. Their table was tucked way back, almost in a corner. They seemed to like it that way. No one to bother them. Whenever the waiter came they appeared annoyed. Like he was intruding. They shared food. He tried hers. She tried his. I imagined that they have been together for many years. At least 25, I’ll bet. What would one do without the other? The alarm...

February 17, 2014. You never wanted the title. You never wanted the attention. You never thought you would be put in such a position at just 14 years old. You never thought you would wake up from a sound sleep to the sound of gunfire in your kitchen. Escaping into the night with your nephew clinging to you for his life. Mother gone. Brother gone. Sister gone. Now people clap for you. Friends. Family. Strangers. They call you a hero to be celebrated and congratulated. To know where you belong. A man shoot...

OLW for 2015 – Question. January 13, 2015. This has been quite a process – searching the world over for my OLW of 2015! OK Maybe that’s a bit dramatic, but still…I formally tried on four words and informally tried on about six others before I finally settled on. Once I found this word, which was sitting in the back of my mind the entire time, I wondered (pun intended) why it took me so long? Sure, those other words were great. I played around with. Is it unique to me? Everyone loves to laugh, right?

Road Trip 2014. The Bathroom Chronicles. August 26, 2014. August 26, 2014. I have many potential slices twirling in my head from this trip. This one is first. It revealed itself on the homestretch of our journey. Three hours to go and I yelled out, “I have it! I’ve got the perfect slice! In Sterling, Colorado Kathy came running out of the bathroom brandishing three or four squares of Kleenes, saying, “See that lady? I opened a stall door and a woman was just sitting there looking dumbfounded! 8221; With ...

Letters to my son. Monthly Archives: August 2015. 8220;Bad word”. August 27, 2015. Yesterday was a very hard day for me because you said something as a 3 year old that I thought I wouldn’t have to worry about for a while….bad words. Well not super bad or anything, but for a 3 year old, it’s a big deal. You said…”stupid.” To a lot of people that may not be a big deal, but to me, it is! I love you,. August 5, 2015. Such a big boy!
