Astrobiology News

Saturday, September 10, 2011. There have been quite a few news articles this past week on the discovery of a "phantom" planet or "invisible" planet. Before I start sounding negative, this is a big find! Okay, now for the slightly negative: this planet that has been found is not that magical. The only unique thing about it is that its too small for us to detect using any other means of detection. But it does exist, and it is cool, mostly because of the way it was found. Then your predictions will be off b...

Astrobiology News: August 2011

http://www.astrobiologynews.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 22, 2011. The Oldest Evidence of Life. I'm not a true expert in this, only an academic tourist, but the idea that life existed 3.4 billion years ago is consistent with other data, including isotopic data and stromatolites. Monday, August 15, 2011. Probably not - even though they have genetic code and protein they can't reproduce without invading a living cell. But they can have an immense impact on how life evolves. So, how important is this anyways? Sources: Planets and Life. The team of ...

Astrobiology News: Flowing Water on Mars?

http://www.astrobiologynews.blogspot.com/2011/08/flowing-water-on-mars.html

Saturday, August 6, 2011. Flowing Water on Mars? A group of scientists using data from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) has detected possible evidence of flowing water on the surface of Mars. A team led by Alfred McEwen has published this tantalizing result in the journal Science. They have found evidence of seasonal variations on steep slopes in the southern hemisphere of Mars that may be indicative of flowing water. Where is this water coming from? Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Suncadia and Luke's Convertible. We mentioned at the end of last week's entry that we were about to head out to a Microsoft training thing at Suncadia Resort off in the mountains east of us. The pictures online looked great, but that was nothing compared to what we saw! Of the untouched mountains with a river snaking down below us? The view from our room. It was super cute how he needed a stage for his rock star debut! Our grown up fancy food was good. but Amit and Marin...

Family Housing had two. Super fun water events. On Monday they had some sprinklers running and otter pops! Luke wasn't really into the sprinklers. something about getting water on his face that isn't really fun or something. But he LOVED his otter pop - and of course the tricycle he found. And then we were like "Wow!

Sunday, September 28, 2014. Big Fat Geek Wedding. This weekend Marinda got to attend her good college friends wedding in Denver! She's an experimental particle physicist grad student who's marrying another experimental particle physicist. Not surprisingly the event was quite the big fat geek wedding. First, for the non-nerdy things, it was at this beautiful golf course up at the foot of the mountains with giant red rocks sticking out in the background, and Laura looked like a fairy tale princess! Misra Family Hebdomadal: Did You Know Some People Eat Solids?!

http://misrafam.blogspot.com/2015/08/jacys-first-solids.html

Sunday, August 2, 2015. Did You Know Some People Eat Solids? Jacy had her first solids! Her doctor said we could start her on them anytime between now and six months, so Marinda roasted and mashed some sweet potato and let her go at it! Yes we're planning on doing baby led weaning again (with just a little spoon feeding for restaurant practice), so we just plopped it down in front of her and giggled while she mushed it a little with her fingers and then sucked the gooyness right off! SMILE at the camera!

Misra Family Hebdomadal: November 2014

http://misrafam.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2014. Prince Luke and Thanksgiving. Luke has loved being in Cleveland and had so many people adoring him. He literally has had people following him around feeding him grapes this past week. (We aren't joking.). One of Luke's favorite things about being in Cleveland is the snow. It's been pretty warm, but we did have some snow yesterday and the day before. Luke liked going outside and plowing the snow. Just look at how much he's having! Luke looooooved pretending to be a snow plow.

Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Sex, Genitals and the Origin of Species. I haven't posted in a while due to "other commitments", but things have eased up and I'm back. And it looks like the Science Gods have smiled upon me because I found a wonderful article. Dr Moczek and Dr. Parzer, in essence, went around analyzing the horns and genitals of four populations of Onthophagus taurus. Natural selection had no horns to work on, so something else had to be occurring. Links to this post. Thursday, August 7, 2008.
