A View from Room 202

A View from Room 202. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. We make pierogi each year for Easter. It's a tradition I embraced when my husband and I married. His mother's side of the family is Polish. His Great-grandmother, "Babciu", grew up in Poland. We will be making some again this year. It's become a tradition, and our daughter always joins us as we make this once a year treat. The process takes hours. We make cheese, cabbage, sauerkraut, potato and plum fillings. Monday, March 30, 2015. It's Not Their Fault.

A View from Room 202: It's Not Their Fault

http://www.aviewfromroom202.blogspot.com/2015/03/its-not-their-fault.html

A View from Room 202. Monday, March 30, 2015. It's Not Their Fault. Perhaps it's just one of those years. It seems I have a few more students this year whom never seem to take responsibility for their actions, be it completing homework, following playground rules, focusing on their work and not distracting others, or being respectful to classmates. I hope that's the case, and not the new normal. Their parents are quick to make excuses for them. Parent - They were hungry and couldn't control themselves.

A View from Room 202. Sunday, March 22, 2015. Seeing the joy on the faces of winning teams is exhilarating. We feel sorrow for the teams that aren't going to advance. Emotions run high. Everyone is hopeful. When the dance ends for a team, often in a close game, tears are shed. (Villanova's "piccolo girl" is an example.) It's the end of the road for them, but they play through their tears and move on. It's the sad refrain of a graduate's heart. Here's my message to all of these amazing young people:.

A View from Room 202. Sunday, March 15, 2015. A Visit to Chicago. We live near Chicago, but don't go into the city very often. Our daughter was home for the weekend, so yesterday we did. We took the train in when we realized our visit would coincide with the dying of the river and the St. Patrick's Day Parade. A View of the River. March 15, 2015 at 5:24 AM. March 15, 2015 at 5:34 AM. A beautiful blend of the chaos of the city with the serenity of a bike ride by the river. Chicago is so close to me an...

Charting By the Stars. Let what I love be the stars to my wandering bark…. This entry was posted on March 2, 2015, in Slice of Life Challenge 2015. I’m huddled up at my desk attempting to warm up after about 30 minutes of cleaning off the cars. My son and I have two hour delays this morning, but my husband had to leave early to catch the bus. I keep thinking about the idea of warming up. Warming up from the cold. Warming up to become spring. Warming up to new ideas. You don’t have to agree with eve...

March 26, 2015. Carpet on the toilet, soft under my feet. Light bulbs all around the mirror. Just my Grandma and Me. Do you know what beautiful is? Grandma closes one eye, then the other. She uses three different colors. Close your eyes, my Bethy. Beautiful is your heart. Grandma makes a fishy face,. And uses her big brush to put on rouge. Make a fishy face, my Bethy. Beautiful is your mind. Grandma chooses a color. She puckers her lips, and glides the stick over them. Pucker up, my Bethy. You are commen...

As I See It. The Fun House →. Auras and Past Lives. March 29, 2015. Apparently, I have a tall, blue aura. And I was brothers with my friend, Anne, in a past life – in Egypt. Huh? When I write that down or say it out loud, it sounds nuts. She kept smiling and holding our hands and you could tell that she was trying to decide whether or not to tell us. Anne blurted out “I want to have coffee with you.” Debbie said that would be lovely. She would bring her tarot cards. They exchanged...It FELT real at the t...

A View from N. Wintzell. Monday, August 29, 2011. 30 for 30: Part VIII. You know the rest of the story, probably better than I do. We only lost a few shingles, while others lost everything. Along N. Wintzell and points South, some of my favorite spots and sights had been reduced to rubble. I felt like I'd been dropped into an alien world where home was there but would never be just the same again. Then I came to the moment of realization: The smell was gone. Links to this post.
