A(nother) Year in Books: January 2007

http://ayearinbooks.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

A(nother) Year in Books. Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Theft: A Love Story', Peter Carey. Ah, Peter Carey. ‘’My Life as a Fake’ bored me to tears. ‘’True History of the Kelly Gang’ was great. ‘’Theft’ appeared in various Book of the Year lists, so despite concerns of my so far patchy record with Mr Carey I gave him another go. Damn. Posted by Jenny @ 5:30 AM. The Inheritance of Loss', Kiran Desai. Or suchlike. I know it’s not the most learned method, but it’s arguably better than Waterstones. My tickling ...

A(nother) Year in Books: ''This Book Will Save Your Life'', A. M. Homes

http://ayearinbooks.blogspot.com/2007/06/this-book-will-save-your-life-m-homes.html

A(nother) Year in Books. Saturday, June 16, 2007. This Book Will Save Your Life' , A. M. Homes. I bought this book because the cover made me hungry. It only seemed fitting, as I now live in the home city of Dunkin. Donuts where every walk down the street is a battle against temptation. In fact, I am woefully, moronically, irretrievably. A(nother) Year in Books: April 2007

http://ayearinbooks.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

A(nother) Year in Books. Saturday, April 28, 2007. Alexander McCall Smith ‘Espresso Tales: The Latest from 44 Scotland Street’. This was an emergency buy; I certainly don’t normally seek out the opus of Mr McCall Smith. Like the rest of the British population, I have read some of his No.1 Detectives Agency. So I only bought ‘Espresso Tales’ because not much else was available in the Hotel Bookshop (still the Oberoi; yes, I did read a lot there; I was a social recluse, remember? Scarlet and Black: March 2007

http://scarletandblack.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

There's No Place Like Home. Wednesday, March 28, 2007. I must say that I heartily enjoyed that aspect of it too. My only regret was that Blair himself wasn't made to look even stupider, but luckily he's achieved that amply without the help of filmmakers. PS Honourable mention to the stunning Aberdeenshire countryside which stole the show and made me feel even more patriotic than homesick. Go Deeside! Posted by Scarlet at 3:08 am. There's No Place Like Home. Wednesday, November 29, 2006. Posted by Scarlet at 4:51 am. Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Written on the Body. Would you ever get a tattoo? So, Tom's post about things one would never do. But amid all these good reasons not to bother, here, if anyone is interested, is the poem which makes me want to do it anyway. We can't be wholly sure about all the words: the first line is fairly secure, but the second is a mess of textual conjecture. As one critic. Posted by Scarlet at 1:40 am.

Scarlet and Black: December 2006

http://scarletandblack.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

There's No Place Like Home. Friday, December 08, 2006. The Scarlet Downie Combo is not a thing of beauty, but looking like an inflated tomato with tree trunk legs is, on balance, probably fractionally more attractive than frostbite. I just keep telling myself: shivering is never a good look. Posted by Scarlet at 3:38 am. Thursday, December 07, 2006. Posted by Scarlet at 3:56 am. Wednesday, December 06, 2006. Thursday, April 05, 2007. However, the images were so distressing that I actually couldn't bring myself to look at the thing for long enough to see in any greater detail what invidious association they were attempting to draw. It appeared to hang on the idea of choice and why this was a bad thing (? Rome: a blast&#...

Scarlet and Black: February 2007

http://scarletandblack.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

There's No Place Like Home. Friday, February 23, 2007. I went to a rather nice Mass yesterday, with the nowadays obligatory but nevertheless rather nice Allegri Miserere and the Byrd 5-part. Unfortunately I managed to miss half the service by the unusual expedient of having done nothing whatsoever all day except sit aorund waiting to go to Mass. Am I the only person who is only ever late when they are early? Posted by Scarlet at 2:35 am. Wednesday, February 21, 2007. Diffugere niues", " The snows have sc...

There's No Place Like Home. Monday, September 25, 2006. The Holy and Undivided. This is Trinity College, though I made a bit of a bish and missed the prettiest bit of the facade. As far as I can gather, the University used to have a collegiate system like Oxford and Cambridge; I'm not entirely sure what function is performed by the remnants of this arrangement, other than decoration. A year in Bordeaux

A year in Bordeaux. Tuesday, December 13, 2011. Good Decisions, Bad Decisions. Our year is over, we leave France tomorrow. It has been wonderful, I'm so glad we took the opportunity to live in another country for a year. Here are some of our good and bad decisions over the course of the year. I think we were overwhelmed by how much we needed to buy and a dishwasher didn't seem like a necessity. Monday, December 12, 2011. Åk aldrig tillbaka dit! Här är några fina bilder av lite av det som jag hållit på med ( ska lägga upp fler snart ):. Februari - lärde känna mina...
