A Year in Kampala

A Year in Kampala. Medical “Evacuation”. Unfortunately, while traveling to Lake Mburo in February, I became quite sick with a fever and mysterious skin infection. It came on suddenly during the first night of my trip. First, I had a low-grade fever, and by Saturday evening, I was feeling pretty terrible. Realizing that something was not right, I decided to return to Kampala early the following day. View of Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. View of Room in Hospital. The day I was admitted, my roommate, Alie, ...

A Year in Kampala. Visiting the Source of the Nile. Source of the Nile Gardens. 8220;God is Good”–The Boat We Used. Cormorants, quite possibly my least favorite bird, exist in this part of the world, too. They look pretty here, but it’s deceiving. Near the source, a few enterprising businessmen and women have set up shop on a series of low-lying rocks. We hopped off the boat to take pictures and enjoyed a Nile Gold (a type of beer) in honor of the Nile. My roommates and I at the Source of the Nile. View ...

Jinja: Mid-Year Retreat | A Year in Kampala

https://ayearinkampala.wordpress.com/2014/02/11/jinja-mid-year-retreat

A Year in Kampala. In some senses, returning to Uganda after the holidays felt like starting over. The goodbyes at home were equally hard as they were in July, and, while Uganda is now familiar, I couldn’t shake feelings of homesickness and strangeness during my first few days back. Luckily, just a week after returning to Uganda, the Global Health Corps Mid-Year Retreat began in Jinja. My co-fellows, Lorraine, and I at Mid-Year. During the retreat, we also had time for fun. One evening, we took a boa...

Trip to Sipi Falls | A Year in Kampala

https://ayearinkampala.wordpress.com/2014/01/19/trip-to-sipi-falls

A Year in Kampala. Trip to Sipi Falls. My roommates Kelly and Alie, as well as several friends–Melissa, Lauren, and Delaney–took a trip to Sipi Falls in Eastern Uganda in early November. This post is extremely belated, but I wanted to share the pictures–thus far, it’s the most beautiful place I have seen in Uganda. View of Sipi Falls from our campsite. View from Mount Elgon. Roasting our coffee beans. Second set of waterfalls. Car trouble is becoming a familiar scene. Next post →. Enter your comment here.

Lake Mburo National Park | A Year in Kampala

https://ayearinkampala.wordpress.com/2014/03/07/lake-mburo-national-park

A Year in Kampala. Lake Mburo National Park. In early February, I took a trip to Lake Mburo National Park and Mbarara in Western Uganda. Mbarara is a major town on the road towards Rwanda situated about four hours from Kampala. Lake Mburo, a small national park known for its lakes (unsurprisingly) and herbivore population, is about forty-five minutes from Mbarara town. Acacia Trees in Lake Mburo. Pretty zebras in the park. Alie and I in pool at Mihingo Lodge. I’m really looking forward to seeing so...

Year Of Jubilee | Olivia's Adventures

July 25, 2012. I’ve been gone for 2 months. I’m so sorry that I haven’t been keeping my blog updated. The internet here isn’t too great and it takes a very long time to load anything… But here is a little update. We have been visiting different churches every week and I’m getting to meet a lot of people. Everyone is so friendly and loving :). So please pray that God leads us as we make the trip to Manaus. I’ll be posting lots of pictures as soon as I can! Much love, Olivia. June 20, 2012. June 20, 2012.

A year of running. Over the next 12 months I will be training for the New York Marathon. I have never been a runner but it was an opportunity I could not turn down - not only do I love a challenge but it will support Right To Play. The views are mine and do not represent Right To Play. A Year in Korea

A Year in Korea. Wednesday, August 22, 2007. Well, this is Melbourne, part of the central business district, at night, obviously. The river is the Yarra river. I'm not quite on the coast, but it isn't far away. This is the beach at St. kilda, a short tram ride away. I went here for the day with Michael, a german guy from my hostel. The water was freezing and it was overcast for most of the day, so it reminded me of home, in a nice way. And this is my new Canon! Sunday, August 19, 2007. 2 Salsa - the clas...
