A Year of Reading Women: February 2015

http://ayearofreadingwomen.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

A Year of Reading Women. Sunday, February 8, 2015. 1872] by George Eliot (aka Mary Anne or Marian Evans) [Kindle]. Why did I never read this book before? It seems odd at age 50 to be reading Middlemarch. For the first time. And, of course, it took me a month, mostly reading at bedtime and occasionally on weekends. Books never take a month for me to read! When I began reading this book I was also reading The Dispossessed. By Ursula LeGuin. Why would I even mention that? Living on the planet Urras nearly b...

A Year of Random Kindness

Tuesday, April 2, 2013. Not an End, Only a Beginning. I’ve been dragging my heels a bit in the sand anxious to type up our last random act. Although this year has clearly changed the way we think about kindness and finding ways to incorporate it into our daily lives, typing Day 365 still felt like an end to something. A year of reading the world. 196 countries, countless stories…. Postcards from my bookshelf. March 15, 2018. You might not have noticed that it’s Boekenweek. A year of reading women | 365 days of women's lit

A year of reading women. 365 days of women's lit. Mary Wollstonecraft: A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. And so here we are: the final book of the year and the last post of this blog. And what better way to round off this canter through some of the highlights of women’s lit past and present than to leapfrog back a few centuries to one of the early trailblazers? Well, not quite. And there are few texts more qualified to show up the flaws in such short-termism than Mary Wollstonecraft’s. Wollstonecraft...
