Beer Advice. Pushing the boundaries of taste. The Case For Beer. Monday, 25 February 2013. Having said that I do fully intend to carry on writing blog posts, they are just going to be slightly less beer-centred, although I do hope they will be at least as successful (if that's the right word) as this beer blog has been. Thanks to those of you that take the time to read my meanderings, and I hope you'll do the same over at my combined blog at its new home under Drinks Advice. Posted by Gareth Jones. Into ...

Beer Advice. Pushing the boundaries of taste. The Case For Beer. Thursday, 7 February 2013. Revolutions 'Clash' London Porter. If ever there was a beer whose packaging was really going to leap out and sell the beer to me I think this one from Revolutions Brewing Company. Would be it. Not that I think it's particularly state of the art, because I wouldn't know, or even claim to know, state of the art design if I fell over it in the street, but it just looks great. The Stewpot: September 2013
http://stewpot-brum.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Showcasing the best food and drink Birmingham has to offer. Thursday, 5 September 2013. A few weekends ago I went to a 30th birthday party. The friend reaching this particular birthday milestone happened to be Danish and as a result a fair crowd of Scandinavian expats had assembled. Returning to Birmingham, I was determined to re-create what I'd tasted. The two pivotal ingredients, of course, would be pomegranate molasses and za'atar. I recalled someone mentioning there was a Persian supermarket ...I ask...
The Stewpot: October 2013
http://stewpot-brum.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Showcasing the best food and drink Birmingham has to offer. Wednesday, 9 October 2013. The one thing I knew before I went on holiday is that I needed a holiday. In recent times, I'd had the luxury of spare time with which to plan such things, not this time. This time, the process was: 'find cheap flights to somewhere interesting.' Germany featured consistently among the cheapest destinations and then thoughts immediately went along the lines of 'can we get to Bamberg? The old town hall. There are only tw...
The Stewpot: Sloe Gin
http://stewpot-brum.blogspot.com/2012/10/sloe-gin.html
Showcasing the best food and drink Birmingham has to offer. Tuesday, 9 October 2012. Usually on this blog I'm all for sharing local knowledge, but when it comes to revealing the best sites for sloes you'll find me less than forthcoming I'm afraid! This year I've managed to scrounge up enough for a batch of gin, but if you're planning on making some you'll need to be quick as unfortunately, this years sloe yield (in my neck of the woods) seems to be low and what there is seems to have ripened very early.

Confessions of a bathtub brewer. Watney’s bleedin’ Red Barrel. A bit of bottling →. September 13, 2012 · 4:29 pm. Brewday no 3 – a quick demo I knocked up. Proved that I could do better, it probably isn’t going to get much better, and I could use the bottles. No 3 is designed to be a lowish ABV blonde beer using a packet of 2009 Summit hops that I got on sale from The Malt Miller. Quarter of a teaspoon of Irish moss. Half a packet of Safale S-04. So what have I learned this time? A bit of bottling →.

This is something I’ve been thinking about since I started collecting my Christmas beer stash. Despite my attempts to shop locally and support local producers, like almost everyone else, we end up at the supermarket because it’s easy. So, despite getting a case in from Beer Ritz. Confessions of a bathtub brewer. Session 91: My First Belgian →. September 2, 2014 · 11:20 pm. AG#18 – scrabbling towards something. The intention for this beer was a pale ale with NZ hops. I don’t want to say an NZ pale as I wasn’t sure of my small antipodean hop stash, so the recipe was this:. Maris Otter – 47.2%. Pilsner – 47.2%. Torrified wheat – 4.7%. Crystal dark – 0.9%. Hallertauer Aroma – 15.8 IBU – Boil 30 min. Pacifica – 3.3 IBU – Boil 15 min. Wakatu – 3.6 IBU – Boil 15 min. You are commenting ...

Confessions of a bathtub brewer. Session 91: My First Belgian. Peak craft and style rearing its ugly head →. October 3, 2014 · 11:21 pm. Session #92: I Made This. As I really started this blog to talk about my experiences in home brewing with the possible intention of becoming a proper brewer, I suppose I had better write something for Session 92. I ended up leaving it to cool overnight, a risk by some accounts but not so bad really. The immersion cooler was the first next addition to the collection.

Confessions of a bathtub brewer. Peak craft and style rearing its ugly head. Selling up →. December 24, 2014 · 12:13 am. AG#19 – Red Cat Rye IPA. It’s been a while since I did this, the proper job and a small child take up whatever time I have to the point where a working lunch at the local every now and then is the closest I get to a bar (it’s a nice bar anyway), and I haven’t had a chance to completely clean up from this back in September, let alone do another beer. Maris Otter 78.9%. Selling up →.
