January 2013 – American to Amazonian

Me, my kids, and our cows: a Brazilian adventure! We have known for years that some day this time would come, we would need to pack up the kids, all the possessions from our family home, and move to Brazil. We always hoped it would be on our own terms, planned out on our own time, and that we would feel ready emotionally and financially. Well that point seems to have arrived and we are ready to go! I’ve been debating whether I should complete my MPH in the USA by squeezing in an internship this sum...

September 2013 – American to Amazonian

Me, my kids, and our cows: a Brazilian adventure! Mad Rush for a Practicum Placement. Well I networked in person, emailed, facebooked, asked professors, cold-called clinics and hospitals (that was an experience in itself which doesn’t bare repeating, they had no idea what I was trying to get at. “Estagio” what do you mean? I now assume Universities set these up in Brazil and are not casually found by students) and no one had anything to offer. September 30, 2013. June 8, 2015. The first office we entered...

August 2013 – American to Amazonian
https://americantoamazonian.wordpress.com/2013/08
Me, my kids, and our cows: a Brazilian adventure! Our first day of school. Today we went to school! There are nice big windows for “air conditioning” though the professor noted it gets really hot on sunny days ( another reason to get energy asap, put a fan or two in that school! When we arrived all the children were waiting outside the locked school waiting for the professor, not a parent in sight (never would that fly in the US! August 29, 2013. January 15, 2014. Neighbors are sick of waiting for the go...

Me, my kids, and our cows: a Brazilian adventure! Packing My Suitcases and There are Still Two Weeks Before We Move…Again. And finally, 4) there is actually nothing else to do. So the slow down has been extreme and shocking and I’m starting to get bored! I can’t wait to move to the city and get to work so I fill up at least part of my day. I’ve started packing up my bags, AGAIN, I can’t wait to get out of here! October 2, 2013. June 10, 2015. Mad Rush for a Practicum Placement. A Rural Brazilian Wedding.

April 2013 – American to Amazonian
https://americantoamazonian.wordpress.com/2013/04
Me, my kids, and our cows: a Brazilian adventure! I see palmas, praias, and pão de queijos in my future. It’s in the bag, quite literally my permanent resident visa is in my bag! I got the official call this morning that it was ready for pick up. Whew what a huge step forward and a lot of stress I can leave behind. It was almost too easy, I’m not sure it has really sunk in yet that all we have to do is buy a ticket and go! Next step will be figuring out packing, shipping, and luggage. April 12, 2013.

March 2013 – American to Amazonian

Me, my kids, and our cows: a Brazilian adventure! Visas, passports, and documents. Going back to the counter, the initial visa questioning was light and almost exciting, nothing like what I imagine anyone wanting to come to the US would encounter, that interview would probably give me heart palpitations. They reviewed how they would send my application down to the Brazilian federal government in Brasilia to be processed and promised me an email in 6 weeks or so. So now the count down begins….
