Bethany the Librarian

Thursday, May 21, 2009. I have so many post ideas in my head but so much is going on right now that they never make it to the computer! Summer is a different world in the Hamptons and it has already begun. I am again coordinating our Adult Summer Reading Program and I have some big events in my personal life as well. So, until I get to sit down and write about all the books and authors that I love (and hate), I had a guest sit down and give us a list of 8 books. Sunday, May 10, 2009. Don't be a stranger.

Bethany the Librarian: Don't be a stranger...

http://bethanythelibrarian.blogspot.com/2009/05/dont-be-stranger.html

Sunday, May 10, 2009. Don't be a stranger. I was thrilled to wake up this beautiful, sunny, Mother's Day to a review of Sarah Waters' new book in my newspaper. And what a great review it was! I feel like maybe too many details were given away but if it gets more readers for Ms. Waters then it's worth it! You can read the review here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What is Bethany the Librarian reading? Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Goose Girl by Shannon Hale. Who is Bethany the Librarian?

Bethany the Librarian: June 2008

http://bethanythelibrarian.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 24, 2008. The countdown begins for our trip to London! I have major homework to do. Piled next to my bed, I have all the latest travel guides as well as a collection of London-related fiction and nonfiction. Here is what I trip over when I get up to pee in the middle of the night:. By Peter Ackroyd (800 pages of history). By Edward Rutherfurd (History of the greatest city through fictional characters). By Anna Quindlen (a tour of London's writers and their character's' haunts). I know I ten...

Bethany the Librarian: Aren't you lucky

http://bethanythelibrarian.blogspot.com/2009/05/arent-you-lucky.html

Friday, May 8, 2009. I was lucky enough to see Sarah Waters. For the second time the other day. She has published her fifth book, The Little Stranger. And crossed the pond to do a Barnes and Noble "one on one" interview. And lucky you, the interview is available online. So while I had to find parking near Union Square in NYC, you get to just click here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What is Bethany the Librarian reading? Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. Outside of a Dog: June 2014

http://mmzlibrary.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Outside of a Dog. Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Lucky Us by Amy Bloom. Rating: 3 stars (out of 5). Review: Reading this book felt a little like watching a silent movie: some jerky, indistinct action, interspersed with text that's supposed to illuminate the dialogue you can't hear, but doesn't necessarily help bring the story into focus. Why do others join the little group in New York? And yet, by the end of the book, I understood where the title came from, and what Bloom was trying to do. It was a satisfyi...

Outside of a Dog. Tuesday, July 29, 2014. The story not told. The Road from Gap Creek by Robert Morgan. Rating: 3 stars (out of 5). Review: When we left Hank and Julie at the end of Gap Creek. Hank and Julie have created a family, are financially stable, and overall seem to have been doing well in the years since we last saw them. How did they get there? Why did they leave again? Dunno I suppose the stories must not be very interesting, since the only family lore Annie seems to know are things that happe...

Outside of a Dog: nostalgia and foreshadowing

http://mmzlibrary.blogspot.com/2008/06/nostalgia-and-foreshadowing.html

Outside of a Dog. Monday, June 2, 2008. The Wednesday Sisters by Meg Waite Clayton. Rating: 4.5 stars (out of 5). An excellent book of the power of women's friendships, this is also a story of how these women, young mothers at the end of the 1960s, each react differently to the women's liberation movement and other cultural upheavals of that time. Outside of a Dog. Wednesday, September 3, 2014. Just doesn't measure up. The Wednesday Daughters by Meg Waite Clayton. Rating: 2 stars (out of 5). Review: I loved The Wednesday Sisters. Maybe because Clayton seems to want this book to be as weighty as the first was, but it's just not. I don't know. Whatever the reason, this is one case where the the elders really are the betters. Outside of a Dog. Thursday, May 7, 2015. Changers, Book 2: Oryon by T Cooper and Allison Glock-Cooper. But the main focus of the series seems to be more about the relationships s/he forms and the choices s/he makes. Does s/he toe the Changer line and keep the secret, or tell the truth in the interest of preserving her/his friendships and relationships from one identity to the next? These aspects of the story are what will keep me reading until the conclusion of the series. Links to this post.

one day at a time...

One day at a time. Saturday, August 28, 2010. I have been trying to give myself a project every day so that I feel at least a small sense of accomplishment every day. I've also starting working out. I've made it my goal to do some form of physical activity every day. Sometimes its hard to get out and do it, but I always feel better after I do. Friday, August 20, 2010. Saturday, July 24, 2010. I'm working to be more transparent the older I get. Sometimes it is easier than others. So, here goes. 8 things I...
