Midwest Chronicles - Alaska to Wisconsin: 30 DOB - Day 16
http://alaskatowisconsin.blogspot.com/2015/04/30-dob-day-16.html
Thursday, April 16, 2015. 30 DOB - Day 16. After yoga class this morning, I spent a little time exploring a trail that appears to encircle this pond behind the Senior Center. I walked my bike along the trail and discovered a small bridge that crosses the stream outlet from the pond. As I continued to follow the trail, I walked through a small, grassy clearing and then back into the forest as the trail went up a small hill. At The Park Center. Friday, April 10, 2015. 30 Days of Biking - Day 10. I'm back to riding another bike in my stable, today's ride being my custom Bob Jackson Audax Club. It has "hammered finish" Honjo fenders, a replica of a fender once made by a French company, and Gilles Berthoud bags. Front and rear. This is my randonneuring bike, the one I rode last May when I successfully finished the Apple Valley 200K put on by the Minnesota Randonneurs. The Bob Jackson coat of arms is on both the seat tube and head tube. 30 DOB - Da...

Midwest Chronicles - Alaska to Wisconsin: 30 Days of Biking - Day 14
http://alaskatowisconsin.blogspot.com/2015/04/30-days-of-biking-day-14.html
Tuesday, April 14, 2015. 30 Days of Biking - Day 14. It was another gorgeous, cloudless day for a ride, with the temperature reaching the low 60s. I felt my Bike Friday. Deserved a longer ride than the one I went on last night, so, once again late in the day, we went out for a spin on one of my favorite routes that goes past Spring Lake. This is what Spring Lake looked like on April 13 a year ago. Like yesterday, the spring peepers were belting out a full-throated chorus in nearly every bog and marsh tha...

Midwest Chronicles - Alaska to Wisconsin: 30 DOB - Day 21
http://alaskatowisconsin.blogspot.com/2015/04/30-dob-day-21.html
Tuesday, April 21, 2015. 30 DOB - Day 21. Snow flurries all day. Wind blows, snow blinds, and hail stings. Thought Spring had arrived. Light snow fell last night with little accumulation. Despite the snow and colder temperatures this week, green shoots are beginning to appear. This is what the weather radar looked like all day today, with one squall after another blowing through northwest Wisconsin. I've read all of Barbara Kingsolver's novels except for two, The Lacuna and The Poisonwood Bible. 30 Days ...

Midwest Chronicles - Alaska to Wisconsin: 30 DOB - Day 29, Girl's Night Out
http://alaskatowisconsin.blogspot.com/2015/04/30-dob-day-29-girls-night-out.html
Wednesday, April 29, 2015. 30 DOB - Day 29, Girl's Night Out. Every month throughout the year, for at least the past four to five years and maybe longer, on a Wednesday evening in the Cable-Hayward area, there is an event called "Girl's Night Out" (GNO). Organized and promoted by a local woman in the community who has a lot of connections, the event attracts varying numbers of women, anywhere from 10 to 100, depending on the venue and time of year. We enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres provided by Pine Bro...

Midwest Chronicles - Alaska to Wisconsin: 30 DOB - Days 17 & 18
http://alaskatowisconsin.blogspot.com/2015/04/30-dob-days-17-18.html
Saturday, April 18, 2015. 30 DOB - Days 17 and 18. Day 17 of 30 Days of Biking. Ended with an early evening ride around a couple of lakes, including Lake Namakagon, as the sun was getting close to setting. Day time temperatures had been in the low 70s so the evening air was still pleasantly warm and the golden light was beautiful. Lake Namakagon, north of Cable, is one of the few lakes in the area that has a road along at least part of its shoreline, allowing for a ride with a view of the lake. Inside th...
