Sunday, February 22, 2015. Needs of the Service: Exhibit A. After basking in the light of my French exam success. For a couple of days, the clouds of the future started rolling in. I received an email from my career development officer that given how early I had finished French training, she was going to have the rest of my training schedule moved up and move my departure date up by two months. I didn't even know that was possible! And be present for some pretty significant Burundian history. Nick Burns ...

Bryan's Adventure Blog: The Richness of Language

http://blog.bryanschell.com/2015/02/the-richness-of-language.html

Tuesday, February 3, 2015. The Richness of Language. The richness of every European language is a richness in ability to describe its own culture, represent its own world. When it ventures to do the same for another culture, however, it betrays its limitations, underdevelopment, semantic weakness.". Ryszard Kapuscinski, "The Shadow of the Sun". It's difficult to talk about the nuances of immigrant integration in France without using French words and French meanings. I imagine it's even harder to disc...

Maybe my favorite speaker during the finance sessions, John Lipsky is the former acting director of the IMF and has a great handle on banking's...

Bryan's Adventure Blog: Forbidden Liaisons

http://blog.bryanschell.com/2014/09/forbidden-liaisons.html

Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Forbidden Liaisons, or les Liaisons Interdites. Sounds like a sexy French movie. In fact, it's a pretty boring French grammar rule that decrees when one should not liaise the last consonant of a previous word when pronouncing a word that begins with a vowel sound. Hmmf. Well, my experience so far in the French program at the Foreign Service Institute. Has been somewhere in between sexy French movie and mundane pronunciation rule. Train, with Quizlet. A student of life in Bologna. La Rossa, La Dotta, La Grassa. Wrapping Up: Part II. On Friday I had two gelati within two hours of each other (rose and pomegranate (Colin: Fail) and watermelon and lemon). Mom and the gang left that afternoon. Everyone seemed to have a really nice time. They took with them one of my suitcases to ease my journey. I worried briefly about not having enough left to fill my remaining backpack, but somehow I’ve managed. Venezia, my favorite. Tags: holidays and festivals. You are...

surreptitiously cinnamon: August 2012

http://surreptitiouslycinnamon.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 8, 2012. The Ineffable Voodoo Glue. It was wonderful and overwhelming. It was surreal. It felt at once that no time had passed and that we had each lived a mini-life since last congregated. It felt like we are all growing into the people we are supposed to be. It filled my heart up and made me proud to know such wonderful people who I could converse with endlessly. I know that no matter how far friends scatter around the globe they can come back to each other changed, but still in love.

More than just a hair color. I Wasn’t Supposed to Buy Anything…. I went to the mall this weekend with a friend. Not just any mall either – The Great Mall. That has the GAP outlet. That’s probably because it’s been so long since I last updated the blog, so let me catch you up on a few things:. 1 My family came to visit for Christmas! And basically all over the bay area. It was lovely. 3 I read three books! 4 I did NOTHING on New Year’s this year. The family was gone, the house was quiet – it’s the first time in a really long time I didn’t do anything, and I couldn’t have been happier&#4...I imagine you are wondering how...
