That Not So Fresh Feeling. May 8, 2016. Docker is a really cool technology. But it’s local implementation on the Mac was just a mess of a layer on top of a VM, with a bunch of network jankyness. It was fine for doing a little bit of prototyping, but it fought with my local VMs, added GBs of VMs to my SSD, and was just a huge pain in the ass to work with. The new Docker beta. Docker still doesn’t clean up exited/old containers, which I think would be a useful feature. Owning Your Own Social Media Content.

That Not So Fresh Feeling. Author Archives: Ryan Toohil. Evernote to Apple Notes. August 19, 2016. I’ve been an Evernote user for about 8 years now. The earliest note I have in Evernote is from May of 2008. I’m not an uber-power user, but I’ve used Evernote for a lot of things over the years and have about 1400 notes in Evernote. It has been a big part of my move to go paperless. Where Evernote went wrong. In their defense, they’ve been trying to refine the product over the past year. Aaron Hernandez&#82...

That Not So Fresh Feeling. Charles Pierce Nails It. Daredevil and the Marvel Universe →. The Interesting Dichotomy of Tumblr. April 12, 2015. This week on Talking Points Memo. Was this interesting story about “#BlackOutDay” on Tumblr, when a few users were able to generate a meaningful social movement on Tumblr. I think the contrast of those two views of Tumblr is pretty striking. Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window). Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). This entry was posted...

That Not So Fresh Feeling. May 20, 2015. There’s been a handful of articles from the past few weeks that I’ve found really interesting/eye-opening/rage-inducing. From Daily Kos, is an article attempting to debunk the recent premise that a lack of father figures is the cause of the conflicts in Baltimore and Ferguson. Sy Hersh wrote on his (reasonably well sourced) suspicions that the assassination of Osama bin Laden. From the Columbia Journalism Review. Both worth reading. Is so even handed in its takedo...

That Not So Fresh Feeling. A Couple of Debian 7 to Debian 8 Gotchas. May 18, 2015. Decided on a whim to use some down time this morning to upgrade my server from Debian 7 to Debian 8. As usual, I ran into a few issues that I wasn’t anticipating (but should have been). In Debian 8, Varnish is upgraded from 3.x to 4.x. I probably should have paid more attention to that. For me, it meant a couple of things needed to change:. Add vcl 4.0; as your first line of your VCL. Apt-get upgrade; apt-get autoremove.

What the Fuck Ever. Sifting through and wading in the cultural soup that sloshes through the mind of a Rhode Islander. Tuesday, May 30, 2006. I Should Just Call This Place the Downfall of Americana. Who the hell am I? However, there is a troubling trend with entertainment, that if you really enjoy a well acted, well written TV show, it will die, because of the dumbing down of America* . An example is Arrested Development. One of the funniest shows in life, that is now subject to live only in disc...And a...
