Brians' ramblings

Sunday, 25 May 2014. New life on the river. A couple of weeks ago our resident pair of swans on the River Nairn, Popeye and Penny produced eight new bundles of fluff. The first couple of photographs were taken when they were just 3 days old. This next batch were taken yesterday and they are now 10 days old. Here are a few photographs of the surviving ducklings. Many thanks to Joe for allowing me to get up close and personal with the Cygnets yesterday. Wednesday, 5 February 2014. Antarctica - part 2.

Brians' ramblings: January 2014

http://www.brianwebster1.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, 11 January 2014. The end of November saw me departing Heathrow for a 13 hour flight to Buenos Aires, where I was met by my guide Laura and taken to the Hotel Panamericano on the Avienda 9 De Julio, which is claimed to be the widest avenue in the world with 14 lanes of traffic! Avienda 9 De Julio. Sea Adventurer in Ushuaia. At 330 we were duly collected and taken by coach the very short distance to the harbour where we embarked the Sea Adventurer. The ship had 114 passengers from 17 differen...

Brians' ramblings: November 2009

http://www.brianwebster1.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, 26 November 2009. Thought I'd better update my blog. Last weekend we were invaded by Moira, Kelly and Joanne who came down from Inverness for a long weekend. I got booted out and had to sleep round at Joys', but at least I did get some sleep, which is more than some did, from what I heard. On the Friday we took the girls to the Bluewater shopping centre for some retail therapy! One last piece of good news that has just come in, Loren, Gills' granddaughter has today passed her driving test at th...

Brians' ramblings: June 2013

http://www.brianwebster1.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 7 June 2013. 2013 started with me approaching the BIG 60 and I decided to spend it in my favourite ski resort of Davos. I had a glorious 10 days skiing, only spoilt by developing a tooth abscess on my birthday which resulted in an expensive visit to the local hospital and two visits to a local dentist. Due to an injury to my shoulders and neck I was banned from using a rucsac and was not able to go with Malcolm, Phil and Tony on their walk up Scafell Pike. Back in Nairn in the middle of May, our ...

Brians' ramblings: April 2012

http://www.brianwebster1.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, 12 April 2012. Time for an update. I thought it was about time. I scribbled something on my blog, so here goes. Since my last posting the winter has been a total disapointment with the worst ski season for many years. Despite starting well the snow just never came and at Cairngorm the season more or less finished at the end of February. This Kite had seen off the Buzzard above and claimed the wabbit for himself. Walking down the river recently I noticed the resident swans were sitting on their ...

Saturday, 25 July 2015. The Beauty Of Birds. Some shots I took earlier this year of other beautiful but common birds. The song Thrush - not as common as it used to be. Simply Superb Swans: Feelings - Even Ducks Have Them.

http://simplysuperbswans.blogspot.com/2015/07/feelings-even-ducks-have-them.html

Wednesday, 15 July 2015. Feelings - Even Ducks Have Them. Yet more laments - the beautiful white duck is gone! After only 4 days Blondie has lost 4 of her ducklings to the black backed gull. This is in addition to her sister who also lost her only duckling yesterday, it has been a heartbreaking week for me, after all the care and nurture of the past 8 weeks. The lament is also for the mother who lost her only duckling yesterday, she is still looking and calling for it today, how sad is that? Http:/ www&#...

Simply Superb Swans: Killed Within Hours

http://simplysuperbswans.blogspot.com/2015/07/killed-within-hours.html

Tuesday, 14 July 2015. After only 5 hours in the River , The newly released duckling has been killed by a black backed gull and crows. It is hard for me to take, having nurtured this duckling for 7 weeks and only putting it in the river hours ago. It was almost fully grown, so it gives you an idea of what little chance ducklings have, faced with these kind of predators. Labels: Black- backed gull. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Simply Superb Swans: In Good Order

http://simplysuperbswans.blogspot.com/2015/07/in-good-order.html

Friday, 31 July 2015. The last Day of July and still waiting on Summer! This has been the poorest summer weather I can ever remember - surely we will see some blue skies before the clocks change! With cold nights the river birds have been keen for their food and acting as though autumn has arrived. The cygnets are growing fast, and now look like young swans, wing development is now the final part of the growing process, ready for flying lessons in September. Cold nights cosy coop. New life on the river.

Simply Superb Swans: Getting Stuck In

http://simplysuperbswans.blogspot.com/2015/07/getting-stuck-in.html

Saturday, 18 July 2015. The Cygnets are growing rapidly and love getting stuck in to the supplementary wheat and poultry pellets. The Glebe road rescued ducklings are now 2 weeks old, I will have to keep them another 6 weeks since the predators are likely to have them if released before that time. Labels: getting stuck in. Sun, Sea and Sand. Welcome to my website. Having enjoyed blogging for some time now, I felt it was time to have a go at creating my own website, however as I have absolutley no knowledge of writing HTML code I did not know where to begin. Then thanks to a chance with meeting with Garve of Plexus Media I found out about spanglefish.com and this site is the result. My intention is to continue blogging on.
