Kitchen Heat: January 2007

http://bringingtheheat.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Bringing the Heat in the Kitchen. Monday, January 22. Sometimes you feel like a Nut. Months ago I was flipping through a new cookbook, The Cake Book, by Tish Boyle. And cried out, "Whoa, doesn't this look delicious? It's not often I get to indulge in this combination, and I put a yellow sticky with an exclamation point on the page, and retired the book to the shelf, until my little chocolate coconut cake would spring back into my mind, demanding to be whipped up for some special occastion. Position a rac...

Kitchen Heat: October 2008

http://bringingtheheat.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Bringing the Heat in the Kitchen. Sunday, October 26. Back in the Kitchen! Not that I ever really left. but somehow I got sidetracked with things like getting certified to teach pilates, going to a year-long school in New York for holistic health, and moving to Vermont. Are these good excuses for leaving my blogging days behind? I'm not sure, but I hope you'll forgive me (anyone who might be out there. hello? I hope you'll check in occasionally and see what's hot! Kitchen Heat: Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta

http://bringingtheheat.blogspot.com/2008/11/vanilla-bean-panna-cotta.html

Bringing the Heat in the Kitchen. Tuesday, November 18. Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta. If you're a custard kind of person (if you said "yes", no explanation needed. if the world custard does not excite any reaction in you, then don't feel left out, but I highly recommend reconsidering the virtues of this culinary delight), like me, then its close cousin panna cotta is probably near and dear to your heart (or stomach, more likely). 1 cup fresh sheep's milk ricotta or whole cow's milk ricotta. 1 cup whole milk.

Kitchen Heat: November 2006

http://bringingtheheat.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html

Bringing the Heat in the Kitchen. Tuesday, November 14. Pomegranate Pork Chops with Winter Tabbouleh. I took one look at the Winter Tabblouleh recipe and knew it would be the first thing I would make. I'd never really seen a recipe like it, and it looked gorgeous - bulgar, cauliflower, walnuts, pomegranate seeds, mint and parsley - just the sort of dish to lift your spirits in the dark days of winter. Pomegranate Pork Chops with Winter Tabbouleh. Partially adapted from Casa Moro Cookbook. When the salad ...

Kitchen Heat: Pecan Rolls, Gluttony

http://bringingtheheat.blogspot.com/2008/11/pecan-rolls-gluttony.html

Bringing the Heat in the Kitchen. Saturday, November 15. Pecan Rolls, Gluttony. A few things. These are made with cottage cheese in the dough, which makes them super soft and tender, and in my mind makes them a more respectable and wholesome version of a morning bun. There's protein to balance the sugar, so that makes it borderline healthy , right? Food and Wine, December 2008. Makes about 12 Buns. 4 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted and cooled. 1/2 cup light brown sugar. 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt. Add t...

When you want to know what ’s good around here. August 8, 2007. Posted by Sarah in Baking. 1 comment so far. Last week I was flipping channels and I came upon the Food Network. Normally, I don’t watch it because it comes in really crappily on my TV. I figure, if I can’t watch it and see the beautiful food I don’t want to watch it at all. However, after hearing about what Ina Garten was going to be making that day, I couldn’t resist. It was the Memory Lane episode where she makes. 1/2 cup baby arugula.

This recipe was all of that, plus, I discovered something – you know how they always say not to over-mix muffins? A large wire whisk, when mixing by hand, really allows you to incorporate all of the drying ingredients quickly without mashing them up too much. It’s made it much harder to overdo it, despite my better efforts. The sprinkling...

When you want to know what ’s good around here. March 17, 2007. Posted by Sarah in Desserts. I was pretty excited to see that Peabody was hosting the Donna Day Cheesecake event. This cheesecake is extremely rich. If you decide to have some, cut a small slice. Trust me, it will be enough! It is very creamy and smooth. I topped it with some broken chocolate drizzle. It worked for me! 1 cup chocolate wafer crumbs (about 20 wafers). 1 tablespoon brown sugar. 1 tablespoon canola oil. 24 oz 1% cottage cheese.

Take it to the Rim

Take it to the Rim. Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Rafting. The idea seemed easy enough. Oh, boy. We did make it up the mountain after a few close calls. What was supposed to be a 20 minute hike looked like they were expecting us to go down this gorge- one that Bear in Man Vs. Wild would have to climb down in a survival situation. So me in my flipflops, and Josh in his even less hikingish flip flops go on down with these 'Guides.'. Josh and Betty Stewart. Thursday, November 18, 2010. At first I was very c...
