Thursday, February 26, 2015. A few new girls moved into the house this week. Is already a chicken mama, but wanted to add to her flock. So we shared a 15-chick order. The babies hatched Sunday, and found their way to our corner of Arkansas on a snowy Wednesday morning. We met Alicia at the post office and picked six chicks from the noisiest package I'd ever heard. Poultry need: Feed, Water, Heat, Light and Space. Use a medicated commercial chick starter for the first 8-10 weeks. The medicated starter will help to prevent several common chick diseases. Use a 2-foot feeder for every 25 chicken. Have a 1-gallon chick waterer (fount) for every 50 birds. Never let your birds run out of water.
