Carol Lambert Artworks: June 2013

Paintings by an Alaskan Artist. Monday, June 3, 2013. Gold Pitcher, Noble Ladies. I am playing around with fabric backgrounds. My experiments are not always successful, but there is something about this one I like. Behind the pitcher is a Japanese textile showing some ancient court ladies, with their long tresses and billowing robes. My reflection is visible on the surface of the pitcher, backlit, so it is just a shadowy form. I hope you like my experiment too. And sometimes on my website. I also cre...

Paintings by an Alaskan Artist. Friday, April 24, 2015. New York Report 2. In addition to studying at the Art Students League in March, I spent time sketching in the Metropolitan Museum. For some time I have been fascinated by the figure of the Virgin in this stunning Annunciation by Memling (1465 - 75). Her face has a subtle expression of someone listening with utmost calm, unusual in an Annunciation. This is the result (still not quite perfect, but close! Posted by Carol Lambert. http://carollambert.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Paintings by an Alaskan Artist. Thursday, December 12, 2013. Two small, whimsical paintings. These two small paintings were auditions of a sort. I wanted to see how I liked the objects as models. I think you may see them again. I already have ideas for my Neanderthal friend in a more elegant setting. In the meantime, here are two very affordable original oil paintings. Blue Egg Cup, oil on linen panel, 6 x 6. Old Boyfriend, oil on gessoed panel, 8 x 8. Posted by Carol Lambert. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Paintings by an Alaskan Artist. Thursday, May 1, 2014. Still having fun with pastels. I got going with pastels last summer, and since then I have acquired some nice materials. I am indebted to my fellow Alaskan artist and friend Kaye N Goodrich, who kindly gave me an introduction to pastel technique. The second piece comes from colored pencil and oil sketches I made on trips through Broad Pass. The colors there are always vivid. Late Summer Hills, 12 x 15.5, pastel on watercolor paper. I am showing you B...

Carol Lambert Artworks: New York Report

Paintings by an Alaskan Artist. Friday, April 24, 2015. The librarians are wonderful, and you can request to view any of the thousands of original works they have in safekeeping. I learned so much by getting up close to Rembrandt etchings and drawings, works by Rubens, Tiepolo, Fragonard, Durer, Van Gogh, and Picasso, among others. I will incorporate my memories of those etchings and drawings in my own work from here on. The weather was really cold! It comes down to more study, more observation. Besi...

Paintings by an Alaskan Artist. Friday, May 11, 2012. Here is a little painting I thought would be simple, but it took a long time. Water in a clear tumbler on a white napkin. It started as a demonstration piece in a class, then migrated to a First Friday demonstration, then came home to the studio where I could control the light. I'm finally happy with it! Oil on linen panel. For more information, contact me at info@carollambertarts.com. Posted by Carol Lambert. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
